Nepal Visa Information

Nepal is known as a very free country with fewer regulations and restrictions for foreign tourists. However, similar to many other nations, Nepal also needs its visitors to secure a valid Tourist Visa for the duration of their stay.

To get this visa, all the visitors must have an individual passport with residual validity of at least six months beyond their stay in Nepal and at least two blank pages and two passport-sized photographs.

If you intend to visit Nepal, then you can apply for the Nepal tourist visa either at the Nepal Embassy or the consulate office in your country.

However, to facilitate easy entry for its visitors, Nepal has also implemented the On Arrival Tourist Visa System, which means you can apply for a visa as you arrive in the country through its international airports or land borders.

There are two ways you can process the On Arrival Tourist Visa:

Direct On Arrival Application:

The direct application for the tourist visa means you can directly apply for the visa once you arrive in the country. You don’t have to process any formalities regarding visa when you are abroad.

For this, you have to fill out the Arrival Card available at the Immigration counter of the Tribhuvan International Airport, Pokhara International Airport or Gautam Buddha International Airport or at the border checkpoints of Morang, Bhairawa, Rasuwa, Kanchanpur, Sindhupalchowk, Kakarvitta, Parsa, Humla, Banke and Kailali with the help of the kiosk machines or by completing a paper form at minor border crossings.

You also need to present a copy of your documents and attach two photos. Then you will have to make the necessary payment at the related bank counter at the airport or the border crossing based on the duration of your stay and get the receipt.

You will have to present this receipt at the immigration counter after which the Visa will be stamped on the blank page of your passport.

Online Application for the Tourist Visa:

This is the most convenient option for securing the Nepal Tourist Visa which we recommend also. You can fill out the Tourist Visa online application form at home which will save you the stress of waiting in line at the airport or the border crossing.

This way you will save a lot of time and get the Visa quickly. Please note that this online application or the registration of the Tourist Visa will remain valid for 15 days from the date you registered. If you fail to arrive within 15 days, you will have to repeat the registration process from the beginning.

The process for applying for Nepal Tourist Visa is very easy and not complicated at all. Begin by opening the official Nepal Immigration website and go to the Online Visa Application section.

Next, select the Visa on Arrival option and specify your entry point, which could be the name of the border or the airport where you will be arriving at.

You will then be directed to a new page where you need to provide your details such as your country, passport number, and date of birth. After completing this information, proceed to the next page and follow the online instructions.

Once you have filled out the application, submit the form, and you will receive a submission receipt containing a barcode. Print this receipt and bring it along for presenting it at the Immigration counter along with your documents. Finally, make the payment at the bank counter to receive a stamp on your passport.

Note

The Nepal tourist Visa will allow for multiple entries within the period of validity granted. Once you get this visa, you will be allowed to explore Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Pokhara without any restrictions.

However, if you intend to join any other trekking trips or restricted areas in Nepal, then related trip permits are also needed.

Please also understand that with the tourist visa, you won’t be permitted to do any work or volunteer activities in Nepal. If the concerned authorities find any violation of the rule, you may be subject to criminal proceedings.

Another important thing to note is that nationals of the following countries will have to get the Nepal Tourist Visa before they arrive in the country:

  • Nigeria
  • Ghana
  • Zimbabwe
  • Swaziland
  • Cameroon
  • Somalia
  • Liberia
  • Ethiopia
  • Iraq
  • Palestine
  • Afghanistan
