Trip Introduction

Of course, the Himalayas and the remote trekking adventures are enchanting, but Nepal also has a wealth of other remarkable destinations. For such a truly exceptional experience, we invite you to join our Chitwan Package tour– an exciting journey to discover the timeless beauty of Chitwan National Park within a span of just 3 days.

This tour will let you discover the wonders of the Chitwan National Park: its forests, its Jalbire waterfall, its wild inhabitants, countless streams, and three enthralling rivers of Rapti, Reu, and Narayani, along with the Tharu hospitality.

We promise you our 2-night 3-day Chitwan tour will capture the vivid emotions in your memories and leave a mark in your heart that will remind you of the magnificence of Nepal and its magical corners.

Chitwan National Park is a vast natural expanse that extends across the southern part of Nepal. It came into existence as the National Park in 1973 and prestige to be the first national park in the country. Quickly, it came under the protection of UNESCO in 1984, seeing the potential of conserving the threatened species that reside here.

It stretches to 952.63 sq. km, adjacent to the Indian border, and is covered by the lush tropical forest, and is crossed by the waterways of Narayani, Reu, and Rapti.

It is a refuge for 50 fine mammal species such as the Bengal tiger, leopards, rhinoceroses, bears, hyenas, and wild boars. It also shelters 525 bird species, making it a dream paradise for every birdwatcher.

It is also home to 55 reptiles and amphibians, including the Gharials, Muggers (threatened species of crocodiles), King Cobra, and Pythons. The rivers of Chitwan are also a safe haven for the adorable little freshwater dolphins and numerous aquatic birds.

Our Chitwan tour package will start as soon as you arrive in the vicinity of the park. Our guide will then soon begin your introduction program with a visit to the Sauraha Village nestled nearby.

This charming village is inhabited by the indigenous Tharu people who speak their own dialect, practice Buddhism and Hinduism, and also act as the guardians of the Park, looking after it and its flora and fauna.

Their extraordinary customs make them a focal attraction for curious tourists. Their residence, made from clay, is beautifully adorned with delightful floral paintings. They are also immune to the bite of mosquitoes and so to malaria.

The excursion will then proceed to the nearby elephant stable, where you can be very up close with these exceptional yet delicate creatures. As the evening starts to set in, our guide will take you to one of the outstandingly appealing Sauraha Viewpoints.

Located in the heart of the forest beside the beautiful shore of the Narayani, you can see the sun slowly hiding itself beneath the horizon. The orange-lit skyline turns into a beautiful canvas for numerous birds flapping their wings to return to their nest.

The day will then end with the amazing Tharu cultural show that will enthrall all your senses. On the second day of our 3-day Chitwan tour package, our guide will lead you through the unique Sal forest of the park, where you will see tal,l gigantic trees, listen to the sound of Nepalese nature, and see colorful birds flying, creating a dazzling nature show.

Followed by the gentle canoeing over the Rapti River, you will continue on to the Elephant breeding center, where you can learn about these magnificent creatures. Your adventure then continues with a thrilling safari where you will witness the park’s wild yet beautiful specimens.

After this captivating experience, you will have the chance to bathe the majestic elephants. The tour will then end as you return to your next destination.

Truly, Chitwan National Park will surprise you with its beauty and atmosphere, and we, in turn, will make sure that your Chitwan tour package is comfortable, safe, and unforgettable.

There are a bunch of activities that you can do in the Chitwan National Park, but within the short span of two days, we suggest you not miss out on the following:

Elephant Back Safari

One of the activities that first comes to mind as soon as we hear about the Chitwan National Park is the elephant safari. Most of the tourists like to go on an elephant as it is one of the best ways to see some rare and endangered animals directly in their habitat, which is difficult to spot if you go on a jeep.

The elephant will silently and gracefully move through the jungle, thus not scaring away the rhinoceros and other fine specimens of the park. For this excursion, the square-shaped sofa-like structure is saddled on the elephant’s back, and three people with the Mahout sit on it.

If you take this option, please try not to unbalance the weight of the saddle so the animal can walk more comfortably. This type of excursion seems to be quite cruel to the animals as they definitely used to be tortured in the past for tourists.

Since more awareness has been raised among the caretakers of the animals, they are now loved and cared for more. However, it is still quite difficult for the animal to endure the weight and walk for at least 5 long hours.

Jeep Safari

This is one of the valid and safest options if you don’t want to make a lot of effort to see animals in the Park. It is suitable if you have mobility problems or are not in good physical shape.

Although the noise of the engine can scare off animals, you will still have the chance to have the sight of rhinoceroses, deer, and monkeys. However, you will get to encounter scenes of the daily life of the Tharu population and probably the unforgettable scene of an elephant bathing with its Mahout.

Trekking in the Jungle

Walking in the jungle, in fact, is the least intrusive and most natural way to get into the park, and the chances of seeing animals are also higher. You may be able to see rhinos bathing in waterholes, their young babies playing with each other, or even the Bengal Tiger hiding under the bush.

It may seem dangerous and risky as you may come face-to-face with these animals, which can suddenly attack. However, you will have the mandatory company of two experienced guides who will not only show you the way and take you to the most elusive corners of the park but also look after your safety.

They will also give you a series of instructions, among which you should keep in mind to position yourself in a higher place than the animals.

Canoe ride on the Rapti  River

It is one of the must-include activities in the park, which is not only a thrill in itself (as you will be floating on the canoe made by digging out the tree trunk) but also gives you the incredible opportunity to see the birds that inhabit the area and the crocodiles along with the freshwater dolphins.

The canoe can accommodate about 10 people, and it is an essential activity to do in Chitwan.

Visit the Wildlife Display and Information Center

The wildlife display and information center is the place where the exhibition is held, where there are animals in formalin, such as elephants, pythons, crocodiles, rhinos, tiger skin, excrement, footprint casts, and photographic stories of wild animals caught and saved.

The center is situated just 1 kilometer from the Sauraha center, and the fee to enter is only 50 Nepali rupees per person.

Excursion to the Elephant Breeding and Training Center

The elephant breeding and training center is also one of the prominent attractions inside the Chitwan National Park. And, we suggest you must take a tour here to see the adorable little baby elephants who with their mother receive training.

They are also used for conservation efforts such as patrolling the park, monitoring the animals, conducting the rescues of the animals, and even transporting food and essential items for the forest rangers.

Here, you can see the friendly bonding of these animals with their caretakers. The pregnant elephants are well cared for while the babies upon reaching two years are trained for conservation purposes.

The center is just 3 kilometers from the heart of Sauraha and is open to tourists during the following hours:

Morning: 6 AM to 10 AM

Afternoon: 4 PM to 6 PM

Admission fee: NPR 200 per person.

Visit to the Elephant Stable

The elephant stable located near the park is one of the finest locations to see the state-owned adult elephants, which are used for conservation purposes in the park.

It remains open from 7 am to 10 am and again from 4 pm to 6 pm. The rest of the time, you can see these elephants roaming in the jungle, grazing and resting on their own.

See and Participate in Bathing the Elephant

In the calm waters of Narayani and Rapti, you can see the Mahout (Caretaker) and his elephant having their time. Usually, the Mahout stays on the back of the elephant, and as soon as it reaches the water, it begins to cool off by fishing from the river with its trunk and blowing a real rain into the air, which becomes a game for both the elephant and the man.

You can watch this spectacle from the shore or even participate in it which can be a thrilling experience. But first, you have to convince the elephant the act by feeding him bananas.

One of the greatest scenes will occur when the elephant immerses itself almost entirely in the water. A spectacle of gushing water and trumpeting joy is unforgettable.

Bathing an elephant, however, has to be paid for which costs you 200 rupees per person. You can partake in this act every day from 10:30 to 11:30 in the morning.

Jungle Stay

You can enhance your jungle thrill by staying right in the middle of the forest. It is also one of the non-intrusive and adventurous ways to see wild animals, especially at night time.

There are wooden towers built inside the park where you will be accompanied by an expert guide. The towers are strong and around 15 to 20 feet high above the ground so you are well-protected.

Tharu Village Excursion

Chitwan along with its natural reserve park and villages is not only special because of its wildlife but also for the indigenous communities who made this region their home for centuries. They are the Tharu community who are the descendants of Mongolians and live mainly in Sauraha and its neighboring villages.

They are known for their typical unique form of dance, arts, mud houses, and remarkable resistance to malaria. Remarkably, they are very clean people, and no dust can be seen on their beautifully made courtyards.

They make what they need with their own hands and mainly live in agriculture, with a growing involvement in tourism. You can either explore these villages on your own, by bicycle, motorbike, or through organized tours.

The organized tour however will allow you to watch their cultural dance performances. And, please do not forget to visit the Tharu Cultural Museum- a small ethnographic museum dedicated to this community and its heritage.

In addition, you will also get to see the unique landscape that is adorned with beautiful rice terraces and rivers. We therefore recommend that you do not limit yourself to doing only safaris in the park.

Of course, the Himalayas and the remote trekking adventures are enchanting but Nepal also has a wealth of other remarkable destinations. For such a truly exceptional experience, we invite you to join our Chitwan Package tour- an exciting journey to discover the timeless beauty of Chitwan National Park within a span of just 2 days.

Day 01: Arrival at Chitwan National Park.

Ram Ram! Welcome to the Heart of the Jungle- the paradise of animals, the Chitwan National Park. As you arrive at the Sauraha Bus Stop or in the vicinity of the Park, we will greet you with a nice welcome drink after which you will be shown your way to the accommodation we have pre-arranged for you.

Please take some time to recuperate after a long tiring journey and enjoy a delicious lunch in the perfect paradisaical environment of the Park.

After lunch, at around 4 pm, we will take you on a tour to the nearby Tharu Village, the local community in the Sauraha, and nearby villages located along the southern bank of the Rapti River. We can come in contact with this community either by walking or by riding a typical cart pulled by the cows.

The walk may last for about three hours along the street that winds through the cultivated fields and the mud house of the Tharu people. They truly pay attention to the beauty of their house which contains lush courtyards really smooth and clean. The walls are adorned with colorful paintings of flowers, small trees, and plants.

It seems the time has somehow stopped here. Everything they need is produced by hand and most of them work in the rice paddies. During the walk, you will meet many children playing around, men working in their fields, and women getting on with their day-to-day routines. No one will ever deny you a smile and a cordial greeting of Namaste.

Then, we will take you to the elephant stable of the Chitwan National Park which is the best spot to observe these majestic creatures. Entry to this facility is free and you can get in the stable every day from 7 am to 10 am and from 4 pm to 6 pm.

The elephants here are owned by the government and are here to initiate the conservation program for these magnetic animals. Here, you can enjoy watching many adult elephants as they leisurely feed and graze.

As the sun starts to settle down, we will then proceed to the Sauraha sunset Viewpoint. Here in the midst of the tranquility of the jungle, you can observe the splendor spectacle of the setting sun casting its orange hue across the horizon while the animals and birds return to their habitat.

This enchanting moment is further enhanced by the gentle rustling of the leaves and the serene flow of the river. Then, we will head to attend the Tharu Cultural Program called the Tharu Dance Stick Show.

The young members of the community show their traditional art and dance performances. The event then ends with a mesmerizing fire show.

Trip Information

Climate and Best Time for the Chitwan Package Tour

Chitwan National Park has a hot and humid climate with tropical weather that exists nearly year-round. Nights are clear and cool, while daytime heat is generally warmer.

Since, we mainly go to the park for the incredible opportunities to observe wildlife and engage in various jungle activities, such as canoeing, safaris, and nature walks, so the most favorable time frame for the 3 days Chitwan tour package is from December to May and from September to November.

The winter months extending from December to late February, are not excessively cold in Chitwan because of its nearness to the Indian border. Generally, the nighttime heat revolves around 7 degrees Celsius and daytime heat reaches up to 26 degrees Celsius.

During spring (March to the end of May) and autumn (September to the end of November), the landscape is particularly beautifully decorated and enjoyable. In spring, the forest is filled with the scent of blooming wildflowers and the lively presence of animals.

And, in autumn, the trees shed their leaves and the tall elephant grass dries enhancing the visibility of the wildlife. However, April marks the hottest period, with temperatures rising up to 35 degrees Celsius.

In summer (June to the late days of August), the forest becomes dense with vegetation flourished by heavy monsoon rains, but wildlife sightings become challenging due to fog, and canoeing on the rivers becomes nearly impossible due to turbulent waters.

How to get to the Chitwan National Park?

You can arrive at Chitwan National Park either from Kathmandu or Pokhara. The large expansive Prithvi Highway connects these two cities to Chitwan which lies at the respective distances of 200 km and 150 km.

Although the distances seem to be short and manageable, but the roads leading to Chitwan are narrow and often winds through the mountainous terrain. Therefore, the transportation takes a longer time varying based on the type you choose.

Travel by tourist or local public bus

The comfortable tourist bus will often take 6 to 8 hours to reach the park while the local public buses, because they make longer stops at various populated areas, take longer time sometimes even a whole day.

If you opt for the tourist bus, there are two choices available for you: one is the sofa tourist bus that is more comfortable to travel to and costs 1300 rupees per person.

Another option is the deluxe bus that contains folding seats and the ticket price is 850 Nepali rupees per person. Their tickets can be purchased from tour and travel agencies, or rental companies as well.

As for the local transport, you can purchase tickets from the driver or bus stations at the price of around 500 to 700 Nepali rupees. Their departure time usually is around 7 am from Sorhakhutte for the tourist bus and the New Bus Stop of Gangabu or Kalanki Bus Stop for the local buses.

Hire a private car

You can also hire a car for the travel to Chitwan however it will be potentially more costly but it offers a more enjoyable experience with increased flexibility.

You can depart at your own time and you will also have plenty of opportunity to make stops at your discretion. The cost of hiring a private vehicle for travel to Chitwan can vary, typically ranging from USD 80 to USD 120 per person.

Take a domestic flight to Bharatpur

Another option to reach Chitwan is to take a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Bharatpur, which lasts only 20 minutes and can cost you around 109 US Dollars per person. The flight departs every 8 am with the last flight taking place at around 2 pm.

From the Bharatpur domestic airport, the Sauraha bus stop is only an hour’s drive away. Our appointed guide will be present to pick you up from the Sauraha bus stop.

Book a chartered flight to Chitwan

You can also reserve a chartered flight to Chitwan which is in fact the most expensive option to reach the park. However, it is also the most convenient, efficient, beautiful, and fastest way of travel as it allows you to enjoy the stunning aerial views of the mountainous terrain of Kathmandu along with its Himalayan Peaks and the vast expanse of the Terai plains and its forests.

This option is especially beneficial for those who have very limited time and want to explore the park quickly. Also, the chances of flight cancellations or delays are quite low.

You will travel in a group of five and the cost is determined by a single charter. The cost for a one-way flight to Chitwan National Park is approximately US$ 2200. if you choose us, we can assist you in organizing a chartered helicopter flight for your convenience.

Accommodation and Meal

During our 2 nights 3 days Chitwan tour, you will stay in a comfortable and idyllic three-star rated hotel which will allow you to get closer to the National Park environment while enjoying high-quality services.

You will have a well-furnished room with two single beds, a private shower, and a bathroom with hot water and free WiFi. Likewise, the hotel’s surroundings also offer the perfect opportunity for you to recharge your batteries while learning about nature and animals.

In terms of meals, full meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner, excluding beverages) will be served at the hotel. You can enjoy a variety of cuisines, ranging from Nepali to international dishes but we suggest you taste the traditional Tharu delicacies at least once.

Such as Ghonghi (a spicy freshwater snail dish), pakuwa (barbecued wild boar meat), Bagiya (rice flour dumplings filled with vegetables and lentils), Bhakka (rice cake),  Parewak Shikar (pigeon meat), etc.

Entrance Permit for the Chitwan National Park

To be able to access the reserved territory of the Chitwan National Park, the payment of the entrance fee at the park gate is necessary and the amount is determined based on the nationality of the visiting tourist.

For Nepali citizens, the fee is set at 150 Nepali Rupees per person per entry. For those from SAARC nations, the fee is 1000 Nepali Rupees per person per entry, while foreign tourists need to pay 2000 Nepali Rupees per person per entry.

Please understand that the entrance permit that is paid on the day will be valid only for a single day that allows multiple access to the park throughout that day.

However, a new permit must be obtained for any entries on the following day. Likewise, engaging in various activities inside the park also requires the payment of an additional fee. Such as a jeep safari for about 4 hours will require the payment of 2500 Nepali Rupees per person while the full-day safari costs 4500 Nepali Rupees per person.

Similarly, the elephant safari fees are 4500 Rupees for foreign nationals, 3000 Rupees for Indian nationals, and 1700 Rupees for Nepali citizens. On the other hand, the canoe ride on the Rapti River is available for 48 US Dollars per person.

You don’t have to stress about these permits and the activity fees as they are all included in our overall Chitwan tour package cost.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is not a compulsory requirement for traveling to Chitwan National Park however, we strongly suggest you get one as it is as essential as your passport in your suitcase.

When traveling to international destinations, it is wise to prepare for any unpleasantries that may happen. In Chitwan, the climate is humid and hot resulting in the risk of Malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases.

Tharu people may be resistant to it but you are not. In addition, consuming new unfamiliar food may also sometimes result in gastrointestinal issues. These potential health concerns can result in medical expenses that are outside of your control.

With the right travel insurance, you can travel with peace of mind, assuring that your policy will assist you financially in the event of medical expenses, lost or delayed luggage, or cancellation fees.

Extra Activities To Do If You Extend Your Chitwan Tour Package

By engaging in 2 nights 3 days Chitwan tour, your experience will be limited to only safari, canoeing, and trekking in the national park. However, if you choose to extend your visit by one or two additional days, you will be able to engage in a variety of other activities that will enable you to fully explore Chitwan which is not limited to the Park only.

Some of the extra activities you can enjoy if you prolong your stay are:

Bike Excursion

Rent the cycle and get lost independently in the amazing surroundings of the Sauraha, woods, and rivers. Roam around and glance at the natural rural lifestyle of the people and venture into places that are not reachable and not included in any tour program designed for the typical tourist. You can also cycle inside the park if you wish to.

Visit Bis Hajari Tal (20,000 Lake)

The lake name comes from the fact that it is a complex network of numerous small and large lakes that are too many to count to probably thousands of them. This justifies the name- Bis Hajari Tal.

The other reason for calling this lake Bis Hajari is when observed from above, its shape resembles 20,000. It is located just 5 km south of Bharatpur, very close to the Park.

It is a popular destination for both national and international tourists as the thick forest and the wetland surrounding the lake is an enchanting place to relax, photograph, and observe the fauna especially the crocodiles and the migratory birds on the bank of the lake.

Go to Devghat

Devghat is a peaceful and lovely village situated at the merging point of the Krishna Gandaki and the Seti Gandaki Rivers. These are highly auspicious rivers for the Hindus which is why the place is sacred and one of the pilgrimage destinations for many.

Especially, the elderly people decide to move here in the final years of their lives so they can die here and their bodies can be cremated at the shore of these holy rivers.

So it has turned into a sort of retirement village for the elderly. It also has a very serene atmosphere and consists of Sita Cave and numerous other temples and shrines.

Hiking to Uperdang Gadi Fort

You may not know but Chitwan also offers you the chance to engage in a small hiking adventure along the secluded trail that will lead you to the magnificently built Uperdang Gadi Fort.

This fort was built by the grandson of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the first ruler of Unified Nepal, to protect the kingdom from southern threats. The fort grants a remarkable view of the surrounding landscape, along with expansive visuals of numerous Chepang and Gurung villages along with Ganesh Himal.
