Spring is one of the most appealing times to embark on the Nepal Bhutan Tibet tour. The skies are usually clear, and in Nepal, the hills are adorned with blooming rhododendrons. The surrounding region is filled with the fresh scent of flowers, making your hikes especially pleasant.
Similarly, in Bhutan, Paro and Thimphu are surrounded by vibrant wildflowers and come alive with cultural festivals, especially the grand Paro Tshechu. In Tibet, Lhasa starts to warm up, making it the ideal time to explore ancient monasteries without the intense chill of winter.
Autumn (September to November)
The next ideal season is autumn, often called the golden season. In Nepal, the monsoon has just ended, leaving behind fresh air and crystal-clear views of the Himalayas. It is also festival time, with Dashain and Tihar bringing vibrant cultural celebrations that add charm to your travel experience.
Paro and Thimphu offer their own magic in autumn, with cooler breezes and forests turning golden. Tibet also remains dry and crisp during this season. In Lhasa, monasteries are active with pilgrims and spiritual ceremonies. However, since this is a peak season, popular routes can get quite crowded with trekkers and tourists.
Summer / Monsoon (June to August)
Traveling during the summer or monsoon season is a mixed experience. In Nepal and Bhutan, you might face heavy rainfall, slippery paths, and occasional landslides, especially around Pokhara. This makes the season less favorable for trekking or long road travel.
Still, this time has its own beauty. The landscapes turn lush and green, the air feels fresh after a downpour, and with fewer tourists around, the tour becomes peaceful and intimate. Meanwhile, Tibet is at its best in summer. Lhasa remains dry and clear, and high-altitude travel becomes more comfortable as the region becomes more vibrant and lively.
Winter (December to February)
Winter is the quietest and coldest season, but still the most peaceful time to travel in Nepal Bhutan Tibet tour package. Despite its proximity to the mountains, Nepal’s Pokhara is generally tranquil and temperate. Skies are clear, offering fantastic views of snow-covered peaks. With fewer tourists, it is the perfect season for travelers seeking solitude and serenity.
In the morning and evening, Bhutan is colder, but it’s still often beautiful; snow falls in higher elevation areas, but Paro and Thimphu are still accessible, whereas Tibet gets colder, especially at night. You will witness Lhasa, quiet, atmospheric, and spiritual, without the buzzing crowds, where you can enjoy it all without any disturbance.
Elevation and distance
You will start your 17-day Nepal Bhutan Tibet tour itinerary in Kathmandu, Nepal, at an elevation of 1324 meters. You will watch the sunrise from a height of 1,600 meters at the Sarangkot viewpoint. Similarly, you will hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, sitting at an altitude of 3120 meters.
In Lhasa, you will travel to an elevation of over 3500 meters. You will be at an elevation of 3700 meters when you visit the Potala Palace and Sera Monastery. The highest destination you will reach on this fantastic trip is Drepung Monastery, situated at an altitude of 3,800 meters.
Besides this, you will cover a total driving distance of 577 km in Nepal. While you cover around 160 kilometers in Bhutan, you cover roughly 110 km in Lhasa. So, the combined approximate driving distance will be 847 km in this 17-day Nepal Bhutan Tibet Tour itinerary adventure.
Difficulty and altitude sickness
Since the 17-day Nepal Bhutan Tibet Tour itinerary is not a trekking journey, the difficulty level of this trip is easy, as you will mainly be traveling by vehicle. However, you do need to have basic fitness, as you will be walking on the temple’s premises. Some locations are situated on top of hills, like Tiger’s Nest Monastery and Swayambhunath Stupa, where some people may find it very hard if they don’t have a basic fitness level.
Similarly, for first-time travelers to Tibet, the high altitude can be a challenging factor that can lead to altitude sickness. Altitude sickness can happen to anyone above 3500 meters. Therefore, it is essential to allow your body sufficient time to acclimate and rest. Our package includes a day of rest in Lhasa before the sightseeing begins after arrival in Tibet. If you feel any signs of sickness, don’t be shy; just tell your guide, and he will help you feel better.
Accommodation, Food and Drink
Himalayan Adventure Treks will handle all your accommodations on this Nepal Bhutan Tibet tour package. Our company will manage lodging in three different countries, so you don’t have to worry about where to stay during your travels. You will be accommodated in a standard hotel that offers comfort and cultural charm in Nepal.
In Lhasa, you will find cozy hotels with a touch of traditional Tibetan style. Likewise, in Bhutan, you can find local hotels and lodges set in serene natural surroundings. Regardless of the country you travel to and stay in, each location will offer top-notch service with the necessary amenities.
The food section will present a variety of popular Nepalese dishes, including dal bhat, momos, thukpas, and selroti, as well as international options such as continental, Indian, and Chinese dishes. While in Bhutan, the national dish, Ema Datshi, comes as a special treat—an interesting combination of chilies, cheese, and other extras, such as red rice, buckwheat pancakes, steamed vegetables, and Suja.
When in Lhasa, you can choose from a variety of traditional Tibetan, Chinese, and Western foods that will be served to you on the spot. The delicacies include tsampa (roasted barley flour), Thenthuk (noodle soup), Tibetan bread, momos, yak meat curry, butter tea, and others. With this in mind, anyone interested in the culinary scene can join our trip and enjoy the different flavors of Nepali, Bhutanese, and Tibetan cuisines.
Permit required
It’s important to know the significance of permits for a pleasant, smooth, and lawful excursion when travelling through the Nepal Bhutan Tibet tour package, as it is a transnational sightseeing tour consisting of a total 17-day itinerary. General travel locations such as Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan only require a tourist visa (USD 30–125). Entry to UNESCO sites such as Pashupatinath or Bhaktapur ranges from NPR 200 to 1,500.
Bhutan has a strict travel system. All travellers should handle all the paperwork through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator, as it is beneficial, as the procedure becomes simple and free from the risk of fraud. You’ll need a visa (USD 40) and pay the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of USD 100 per night. Some sites, like Tiger’s Nest, may charge some extra.
In Tibet, first obtain a Chinese visa (USD 30–140), then a Tibet Travel Permit through your tour operator. To visit areas outside Lhasa, like Mount Kailash, an Alien Travel Permit is needed. UNESCO sites like Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple in Lhasa need entry fees around CNY 50–200.
Travel Insurance
When planning an adventure across Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet, getting the right travel insurance is important, as it is the longest excursion with a 17-day itinerary. These destinations are known for their stunning high-elevation terrain, but that beauty demands certain challenges, so no one can assume what will happen while travelling.
Especially related to mountain sickness and limited healthcare facilities in remote areas. That’s why your travel insurance should particularly include coverage for highland medical emergencies and emergency evacuation by helicopter or air ambulance.
Because parts of your route may take you over 3,000 meters, even a slight health problem might swiftly escalate in the absence of competent help. The best policy should cover hospitalisation, doctor visits, trip cancellation or interruption, and lost baggage.
Before joining this tour, arrange travel insurance individually, as this tour package does not include travel or medical insurance. It protects you physically, mentally, and also emotionally in your hard times, so it can be your trump card. Due to this, you can travel with peace of mind without worrying.
What to expect from this trip?
In the 17-day Nepal Bhutan Tibet Tour itinerary, you will travel from the busy Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, a home of the old temples and UNESCO heritage sites, to the quiet plains of Chitwan National Park, where safaris, elephant riding, and wildlife bring you face-to-face with rhinos, tigers, and vibrant birdlife.
In the city of Pokhara, climb up Sarangkot to see the sunrise over the Annapurna range and visit peaceful lakes, waterfalls, and inviting cozy cafés. The tranquility of the Bhutan kingdom is next on the itinerary, where one can take hikes to the famous Cliffside Tiger’s Nest Monastery, see the colorful fortress-monasteries in Thimphu, and get the warm local hospitality in the beautiful valleys.
Last but not least, Lhasa, the capital city in the high altitudes of Tibet, is home to the Potala Palace, the holy Jokhang Temple, and the bustling Barkhor Street. Consecutive comfortable flights and drives will allow you to take your time to absorb every landscape and aspect of the culture, making this a leisurely-paced adventure for an unforgettable experience.
Private Trip Vs Group Trip
A private trip through Nepal Bhutan Tibet tour package offers a more individual and adjustable travel schedule experience just for you. You get to choose your own pace, make changes to the itinerary throughout the excursion, and enjoy undivided attention from your guide. It’s best for couples, families, or anyone who wants a little comfort and courtesy while travelling.
The significant disadvantage is the budget, which is usually more expensive since everything is arranged just for you. You might also miss out on the shared fun and spontaneous moments that often come with group travel mainly good for the reclusive person who loves to travel and explore alone.
On the other hand, a group trip is a great way to explore these three beautiful regions while saving money and meeting fellow travelers. The procedure for preparing is facilitated by the fact that everything is prearranged. A group trip is more enjoyable as it brings a substantial amount of positive vibes, as well as nurtures lasting friendships
However, the schedule is fixed, so there’s less room for flexibility. And with a group, you sometimes have to wait around or adjust to others’ pace and preferences, which can slow things down a bit.
A typical day in Nepal Bhutan Tibet Tour
At this thrilling 17-day Nepal Bhutan Tibet Tour, we can take the start of the day as an early breakfast and then move further ahead with the morning being used to see the temples and monasteries guided by a guide, probably, or the world heritage site by UNESCO, and then explore the Potala Palace in Lhasa, the serene dzongs of Bhutan, or the bustling squares of Kathmandu. Each day is laced with a mix of cultural immersion and scenic beauty.
After having a local lunch, the afternoon still has plenty of time for further exploration, such as a monastery visit, a short hike, or simply an incredible drive. The entire experience is not overly hectic, with breaks for rest, which further enhances comfort, particularly at higher altitudes. Yet, it is also interesting and engaging at the same time.
