Panauti Day Tour is one of the typical Newar towns to visit outside the Kathmandu Valley. It is located 33 kilometers southeast of Kathmandu in the Panauti municipality in the Kavre district of Bagmati Zone. It is situated at 1447 meters AMSL and is linked with the Arniko highway, which is 6 kilometers north of it, and the B.P. highway to the east. It is situated at the confluence of Roshi and Punyamati rivers, and it is believed that the third one, also called Padmavatialso joins at this confluence from underground, making it the Tribeni, tri-junction. As a result, this place has become the most sacred one, and the Nepalese people regard it as Uttar Prayag, after the Prayag of Allahabad, India.

Its importance is clearly mentioned in the inscription of King Pratap Malla (17th century) at Rani Pokhari. As in Prayag, every twelfth year in the month of Magh (January), a big festival is observed, and people from far and wide come and take ablution. Panauti, located about 32 km southeast of Kathmandu at an altitude of 1,447 meters, is a charming Newari town rich in history, culture, and religious significance. Panauti is home to the Indreshwar Mahadev Temple, one of Nepal’s oldest Hindu temples, dating back to the 13th century. This pagoda-style temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a masterpiece of Newari architecture. The town also features Brahmayani Temple, Unmatta Bhairav Temple, and Krishna Narayan Temple, showcasing intricate wood carvings and stone sculptures.

How to reach the country
