Trip Introduction

Famed among the travel backpackers for its exceptional offbeat excursion, the Sikles Village trek will offer you a rare fusion of natural allure and cultural depth that is hardly found anywhere else in Nepal.

Despite being in the renowned heart of the Annapurna region, the isolation and the relatively hidden trail of the Sikles Village trek have enabled the trek to successfully retain its age-old cultures, heritage, and customs in the fast-growing world of modernization.

If you go for our Sikles Village trek, Himalayan Adventure Treks promises you will be mesmerized by the unique life insights of the Gurung people, the invigorating beauty of nature, and the exquisite wide panoramic view of the Annapurna Himal, to name a few.

Additionally, you will be trekking the Royal Hiking Path in the Sikles Village trek that was traced by King Charles in 1980. His royal visit has transformed this journey into an eco-trekking adventure intertwined with royal legacy.

The Sikles Village at 1980 m altitude is positioned in the Kaski District within the vast ground of the Annapurna Conservation Area, resting beside the tranquil waves of the beautiful Mardi Khola.

It was the born place of the renowned conservationist Chandra Gurung, who was the lead supporter in forming the conservation program for the Annapurna region.

The village was originally named Chili Nasaa, which indicates the area was a vast place of the Swallow Bird, aka Gauthali. Over the course, many travelers discovered this beautiful locale and were fascinated by the healthful air and nature of the area. Thus, the name was attached as Sickless, later turning to Sikles.

The Sikles tower, the Eco Museum, the Maudu Kyufi Temple, and Rishing Danda are a few enticing attractions of the Sikles Village. While engaging in our Sikles Village trek 4 Days journey, you will also be engrossed by the Tibeto-Burman descendants of Gurungs, their extraordinarily simple Buddhist practices, and Shamanism.

Once contributed to the British Gurkha regimen, the people here are now more engaged in handicrafts, agriculture, and tourism.

Apart from the cultural and natural meeting, our Sikles Village trek will also offer you the meaningful moments with the Annapurna range (Annapurna II (7937 m), III (7555 m), IV (7524 m), South (7219 m), Lamjung (6983 m), Manaslu (8156 m), and Fishtail (6993 m).

The Sikles Village trek itinerary will lead you through Pokhara to Mahindra Cave, the commencing location of the trek. The path of the Sikles Village trek will then meander through Ghale Kharka over the 2550 m towering slope of Nyauli Kharka (maximum altitude) to Sikles.

The Taprang and Yangjakot Village will then mesmerize you, after which Pokhara will once again embrace you in its heavenly comfort. Thus, our Sikles Village trek can be your remarkable side trip, a perfect enhancement to your Nepal adventure, and an excellent first hiking trip to appreciate the natural magic of Nepal.

What will you get from the Sikles Village trek 4 Days trip?

Meet the Gurungs

While the Everest region will unveil the authenticity of Sherpas, the Annapurna region will disclose to you the Tibeto-Burman ancestry of the Gurung people who populate the slopes and settlements of the grand Annapurna.

Their courage and discipline have made them significant names in the Gurkha units of the British Army.

An easy and authentic experience

The Sikles Village trek is in close proximity to Pokhara, which can be completed within 4 to 7 days or even in a day if you opt for a jeep tour.

The time-honored cultures, customs, and heritage of the locales, along with an easy natural terrain, make the Sikles Village trek an excellent trip for those desiring a very simple journey in Nepal.

Immerse in the local lifestyle

The Sikles Village is styled with the particular stone and mud houses of the locals. The people here are mostly engaged in mountain agriculture and less in tourism.

Thus, you will have the remarkable opportunity to live the authentic village life in the Annapurna of Nepal and connect with local farming practices.

An enticing Himalayan Panorama

Throughout the route of the Sikles Village trek, you will have the enticing opportunity to devour your sights on the magnificence of the Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna II (7,937 m), Annapurna III (7,555 m), Annapurna IV (7,525 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), Lamjung Himal (6,983 m), Machapuchare (6,993 m), and Manaslu (8,156 m).

Homestay Experience

At Ghale Kharka, Sikles, and Taprang, you will have a pleasing cultural evening in the community lodges hosted by the beautiful Gurungs. The language may be an obstacle, but their organic meal, warmth, and hospitality will be your personal achievement.

Detail itinerary of Sikles Village Trek

01

Day 01: Drive from Pokhara to Mahendra Cave and Trek to Ghale Kharka.

Our Sikles village trek will take off today from Pokhara as we drive towards the marvelous Mahendra Cave, one of the prime tourist natural sites in Pokhara.

Once we reach the cave, we will tie our light walking shoes and set forth along the Pokhara Baglung Highway via Jaimure Gufa road towards Milanchowk.

The path ahead will gently elevate through the velvety green terrain of Lhachowk and Ghachowk. Sel Roti of Brahmins and Chhetris people is the highlight of these towns.

Next, we will meet a tender river here, which we will cross and reach the office of Annapurna Conservation near Charghare. The path onward will move to Kharpani, celebrated for its healing thermal spring near the bank of the Seti River.

Moving on, the road will lead us east, where we will have the daunting task of crossing the Seti River on a high bridge. Once through, the farmland will uplift us for a while, then move us down to Chyanglung, a large, lively Gurung settlement.

The Sardi Khola will then play as our guide and lead us for a sharp climb towards Kyabrang village. Here, our route will move down, finally reaching Ghale Kharka or Ghale Gaon.

This is the indigenous settlement of the Ghale community, hard laborious farmers who like to host tired tourists like us. The sunset is promising as we watch from our window the marvelous outlines of Lamjung, Ngadi Chuli, Annapurna III, IV, Himalchuli, Manaslu, and Fishtail.

Arrangement of Accommodation in Pokhara

Please understand that our Sikles Village trek 4 days trip does not include the arrangement of your accommodation in Lake City, Pokhara, as the trip initiates right from Pokhara.

Generally, our Sikles Village trek is joined by such guests who are already enjoying their stay in Pokhara and like to engage in some exquisite short detour away from the city.

However, if you desire us to organize your hotel stay in Pokhara, we will certainly be delighted to do so. Kindly indicate your interest in three, four, or five-star hotels, single, as well as whether you prefer single, double, or deluxe rooms, and we will accordingly arrange your overnight resting place in Pokhara.

Please note that this service will come with an additional fee depending on your accommodation preferences.

When is the best time for the Sikles Village Trek?

You can add our Sikles Village trek as a delightful side trip to your Pokhara detour or Annapurna excursion at any season of Nepal you favor, whether it be summer, spring, winter, or autumn.

However, if you desire the exceptional harmony of nature, weather, and walking route, then we suggest you engage in our Sikles village trek in Nepali Spring between March, April, and May, and Nepali autumn in September, October, and November.

The spring in Sikles warms the village with the milder heat between 12 to 17 degrees Celsius. The days gently lengthen and nights become warmer, and by May, sporadic rainfall will begin to nourish the forest and terrain of Sikles.

Moreover, the entire Annapurna region will be exploded with multiple bright flowery colors with the illustrious rhododendrons and other Himalayan blossoms.

The autumn in Sikles will bring 10 to 14 degrees Celsius of pleasant heat with bright blue sky above and the breathtakingly transparent mountain scenery in front.

December, January, and February days will revolve with a temperature of 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, with the clearest, brightest, and warmest daylight star shining over our heads. There will be no snow on our walking route; rather, it will be driest and clearest.

During June, July, and August, the monsoon air moves across Sikles, resulting in mud, overflowing rivers, and disappearing Highway roads. However, there will be no constant rain, so with the window of dry weather, you can take the Sikles Village trek even in Nepali Summer/Monsoon.

Difficulty level of Sikles Village Trek 4 Days Trip

Our short Sikles Village trek 4 days trip is a soft nature hiking journey which is leveled as grade 1 in difficulty level. The highest point the trip reaches is when we are at Nyauli Kharka at 2550 m elevation above sea level. Thus, our Sikles Village trek presents no danger of acute mountain sickness.

In fact, the Sikles Village trek is deemed as one of the simplest low-altitude and very brief mountain hiking treks that is manageable for anyone who has moderate fitness and good health.

The route also does not require any technical expertise and comprises a few steep up and down walks typical of any Nepali mountain routes. The hiking duration is also not overly long, limited to only 4 to 5 hours for four days.

However, the route consists of local homestays and lodge stays where you may not get the same comfort as you will have on other more popular Annapurna trails, such as Annapurna Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit.

All in all, if you are in search of a very authentic atmosphere of Nepal, the luxurious Himalayan sights, and a short trekking adventure, then the Sikles Village trek is what you are looking for.

Who is best suited for the Sikles Village Trek Itinerary?

Gentle soft elevation, straightforwardness, and accessibility define our Sikles Village trek that renders it suitable for individuals of any age and fitness. This is an exceptional family vacation where you can be joined by your parents, children, and even grandparents.

With the highest elevation limited to only 2550 m, this trek is therefore also suitable for those who have some health concerns that often limit them from engaging in other high-altitude mountain journeys.

Still, we suggest that you get the advice from your doctor before joining our Sikles Village trek, particularly if you have any lung, heart, or kidney health issues.

Additionally, the Sikles Village trek can also be attractive for those who appreciate the encounter with the unique culture and customs of the people. The Gurung and Magar communities that you will meet on the trail will awe you with their Buddhist beliefs and knowledge.

Likewise, if you are fond of wildlife, Annapurna will surely be your heaven where you will walk through jungles brimming with rare birds, butterflies, animals, and plant species.

If you desire to capture the precious nature moments, then the Sikles Village trek will offer you tremendous opportunities.

As a side trip to your long Nepal adventure, as a considerable gift to the people you love, a short getaway from city life and stress, and an adventurous off-the-beaten-track journey, the Sikles Village trek will fulfill all you imagine.

Altitude Sickness and Acclimatization

The chances of developing altitude sickness in our Sikles Village trek are very rare. The entire 4 days journey will occur all the time at a very comfortable altitude above sea level, with a maximum being only 2550 m.

The oxygen amount, therefore, will always be plenty, unlike in other moderate to high altitude mountain expeditions. Therefore, no rest days have been planned and placed in the journey.

However, since altitude sickness is a very unpredictable altitude-related condition that can impact anyone anytime, we have therefore scheduled shorter walking hours, and the duration is also only 4 days.

Still, if you are one of those who haven’t been above 2000 m altitude in life, it is probable that you may slightly feel the elevation manifesting through headaches, difficulty sleeping, body aches, and fatigue.

These manifestations are only minor and will disappear once you rest for a few hours and consider drinking more fluids such as water, lemon juice, or lemon honey water.

You can also consider Diamox, but refrain from using it as much as you can, as the side effects of this diuretic medicine can trouble you even more. Instead, paracetamol, aspirin, or Ibuprofen will help you more than Diamox in this short Annapurna journey.

Is any Physical Training vital for the Sikles Village Trek?

True, the Sikles Village trek offers a remarkably beginner-friendly experience in the lesser-known heart of the Annapurna. It lasts only for four days and does not involve long multi-day mountain treks.

However, it is very vital for you to remember that you will be traversing the mountain terrain of Nepal, where you will consistently encounter various ascents and descents, along with a few steep trails.

Additionally, walking for 4 to 5 hours daily over four days can be quite tiring and problematic, particularly for those who are inexperienced in trekking or lead a less active lifestyle.

Thus, we urge you not to overlook the importance of physical training, which should be moderate rather than vigorous. Focus on your regular activities such as walking, running, cycling, stair climbing, and swimming.

Those who are constantly active in their life will find the overall trek experience much easier to cope with.

Are there any other alternate Sikles Village Trek Itinerary?

Yes, there is certainly another delightful route that will also take you to the Sikles Village, but in reverse direction from our recommended Sikles Village trek itinerary.

From Pokhara, you can head towards Chansu Village, then proceeding to Sikles through Tanting, and then trek to Ghale Kharka. This reverse route will give you a similar invigorating immersion as you had while beginning your Sikles Village trek from Ghale Kharka.

The altitude changes, nature, and landscape will also remain the same, only in a different order.

Sikles Village Trek Expansion Options

The Sikles Village trek is a magnificent Annapurna trekking experience that unveils numerous options that can multiply your immersion and enjoyment. To your Sikles Village trek itinerary, you can add:

Tara Top Trek:

Tara Top is an exceptional wooded hill lookout point founded by Gopi Adhikari, adjacent to Sikles Village. With its immersive 3056 m altitude, the hilltop is the astounding point to see the entire Annapurna massif (Annapurna South, II, III, and IV) along with Fishtail, Himchuli, Manaslu, and Lamjung Peaks.

You can either complete this trek within just four days or ten days. From Ghale Kharka, you can first progress towards Tara Top, then Sikles. Or, you can first reach Sikles and hike to Parche and Tara Top.

Kapuche Glacial Lake Trek:

Another splendid way to elevate your Sikles Village trek is to include a trek to Kapuche Glacial Lake. It is the lowest situated glacial lake on the planet at just 2546 m, but no less beautiful. From Sikles, the route will pass through Hugu Village to the lake.

Even if you add the adventure of the Kapuche Lake trek, you can still complete the journey within four days.

Kori Danda Trek:

Another immersive adventure that you can combine with your Sikles Village trek is the Kori Danda Trek that reaches 3800 m in elevation and is slightly demanding than the Sikles Village trek route.

The Kori Danda is the newly introduced trekking adventure in Annapurna, which, thanks to its splendid location and commanding height, this green hill in Annapurna is also a beautiful location to watch the glistening Annapurna Himal.

From Sikles, the trail to Kori Danda will march through Hugu Goth and Nohtha. After ascending the steep slopes of the Kori Hill, the route will travel through the same path to Pokhara.

Sikles Jeep Tour

The roads have now reached the village of Sikles from Pokhara, thus enabling you to take a luxurious one-day jeep tour of Sikles Village.

What can you expect from the Sikles Village Trek 4 Days Trip?

The Sikles village trek is gradually becoming a favorite among Western backpackers. And why not? The untouched, authentic, real life and nature, the time stood eternal customs, and the extraordinary heritage of Gurungs will fascinate you at every corner of the Sikles Village trek.

The Sikles Village itself is decorated with the narrow, beautiful stone lanes, encircled by the huge frames of the Himalayas and green, rich hills. This tiny village has much to offer you in terms of its museum, tower, landscape, lookout point, and wild honey bee collection.

The people live their own original life by creating unique handicraft items, cultivating rich crops, attending their animals with no care for the modernizing world.

Then there are Ghale and Gurungs who will charm your each evening with their welcoming cultural shows and dance. Each day, you will have captivating sightings not only of the Annapurna, Lamjung, or Fishtail but also of women weaving traditional attire, garments, children playing under the warming daytime star, and men tending their fields.

Where will you get this authentic and peaceful village life other than the Sikles Village trek?

Accommodation, Food, and Transportation

During your Sikles Village trek itinerary of 4 days, Himalayan Adventure Treks will see your peaceful sleeping arrangements in the best found community lodges or homestays of the lively locales.

Concerning your transport arrangements from Pokhara to Mahindra Cave and from Yangjakot to Pokhara, a private jeep or vehicle will be arranged by the Himalayan Adventure Treks team.
