Then join our short Everest Base Camp helicopter tour – a rich 4 to 5-hour trip that will let you discover the most enigmatic panorama of Solukhumbu, its mountains, rivers, jungles, monasteries, waterfalls, and people.

Anyone who wants to see the sights of Everest from the air and get to know the nature of its surroundings should not miss the chance to partake in our Everest base camp helicopter tour 2026-2027. This tour will not require any special training or excessive physical effort from you, but will be comfortable and will forever remain in your memory.

On top of that, this journey is far from being a luxury or overpriced affair. Its cost is quite similar to the ten to fourteen days of hiking trips you would face on any other Everest Base Camp Trek.

Additionally, we guarantee not only comfort but also safety in our private Everest base camp helicopter tour with landing at Kala Patthar. Each part and equipment of the helicopter goes through a deep technical inspection every day before the flight begins. Our team also consists of only trained and skilled pilots with thousands of hours of flying experience under their belts.

Regarding our travel journey, our Everest base camp helicopter tour will begin from the helicopter departure point of TIA. Before you board the shuttle, our pilot will briefly explain your flight plan, safety, landing point, and destination.

After you fasten your seat belt and put on your headphones, the chopper will take off. With a good dose of adrenaline rushing through you, you will rise to the sky and ascend to Lukla.

Literally below you, will be the panorama of scenic Himalayas and a patchwork of the green landscape and white waters of Dudh Koshi. Truly, the feeling will be incomparable to any other excursion you have ever taken.

After a momentary pause at Lukla, you will soar again in the sky with the roar of a helicopter rotor above your head. Glance at the colorful roofs of the Namche, the Monastery of Tengboche, and Pangboche, and bestow your offerings to the disappeared souls of brave mountaineers and climbers at Thukla Pass.

Then, slowly the sandy Kingdom of Lobuche and Gorak Shep will appear beneath you, eventually revealing the noteworthy sights of the immovable and immortal mountain peaks.

The 5364 m high Everest Base Camp, the 7600 m elevated Khumbu Glacier, the 5486 m high Khumbu Icefall, Gaurishankar (7134 m), Nuptse (7851 m), Langtang (7246 m), Ganesh (7422 m), Lhotse (8516 m), Pumori (7161 m), Ama Dablam (6812 m), Everest (8848 m), Lobuche (6119 m), Khumbutse (6636 m), Manaslu (8163 m), Changtse (7583 m), Kanchenjunga (8586 m)- you will see them all as you rise higher and higher into the sky making circles around them.

You will then turn and set your gaze towards the 5644 m high black monument of Kala Patthar. Our experienced pilot will then land you softly on the flat area of Kala Patthar for ten minutes.

Here you will get out of the helicopter, breathe in the clean mountain air, and admire the views of Changtse, Lobuche, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Everest, Khumbutse, Pumori, and Lingtren.

From here, you will definitely take incredibly beautiful,l unique photographs that will delight your families and companions. After you have taken plenty of photographs and have time to soak in the beauty of the place, you will return to the helicopter and take to the skies again.

Once again circling over the mountains, you will head for the highest altitude breakfast at Everest View Hotel (3880 m) at Syangboche. Have you ever imagined about the possibility of dining alongside the magnificent Everest? No, then see for yourself how your unimaginable moment just became true.

After an hour, you will soar back to Kathmandu, forming and keeping the memories that will warm you for the rest of your life. Remember, the Mt Everest base camp helicopter tour is not just a journey, but it is THE MOUNTAIN journey.

It is a tour that will take you on a journey through the sacred territory of the Sherpa, their lush landscapes, rich culture, monasteries, and daily life. If you land in Pheriche, you will have the chance to personally connect with the stunning environment of Khumbu and its inhabitants.

Detail itinerary of Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

01

Day 01: Everest Helicopter Tour Details Itinerary.

5:45 AM: Pick Up from your hotel and drive to TIA (1350 m)

Get ready for an early start of your Mt Everest base camp helicopter tour. At 5:45 am, our tour guide will be in your hotel lobby to take all the participants of the tour to the domestic gate of TIA. The drive through the silent street of Kathmandu can take around 20 to 30 minutes.

Before leaving, please make sure you have kept your passport in your bag safely. Also, we suggest you wear warm clothing to be safe from the cool breezing air through Everest. It would not hurt if you also carry gloves, some dry foods, sunglasses, and a water bottle.

6:15 AM: Proceed to the Helicopter counter at TIA for check-in

After we reach TIA, our first step will be to complete all the essential formalities before we head to Lukla. The authorities at TIA will review our documents, and our passports and also weigh our luggage. These formalities may take around half an hour to complete.

Please note that the helicopter has a maximum weight limit for its passengers and it will be the determining factor to decide how many can board the flight.

After finishing with the procedures, the officials will then hand us our boarding pass after which we will wait for our departure in the waiting room.

In the meantime, the flight technicians at TIA will conduct the safety inspections of our shuttle. They will also monitor the weather conditions of both Kathmandu and Lukla.

After they ensure the optimal flying conditions, they will give the green signal for our departure and announce our departure time. As our boarding time approaches, we will head to the helipad of TIA where the lead pilot will of our chopper will welcome us.

He will then briefly explain all the safety protocols such as how to enter and exit the shuttle, how to operate the door handles, and how to enjoy the flight safely.

These safety instructions may seem very unimportant and time-consuming to you but please understand they are vital so please give your full attention. After the briefing, we will now climb aboard and get set to fly over the Mother Mountain of the planet.

Note:

We understand each one of us likes to have the best window seat for the invaluable mountain and landscape views. However, every group member should have a fair chance to enjoy and savor these views. Therefore, we have arranged a rotating seating system at regular intervals for equal opportunity for all the participants.

06:40 AM: Helicopter Ride to Lukla (2820 m), 45 minutes

Buckle up for the thrilling 45-minute flight to land at one of the notoriously renowned airports of the world- the famous Tenzing Hilary Airport of Lukla.

From TIA, our pilot will fly us east and within just ten minutes into our sky journey, we can see the heavenly mountain tips slowly appearing before our eyes piercing the fluffy blanket of white clouds.

At first, the stunning Ganesh, Dorje Lakpa, Langtang, Kanchenjunga, and Manaslu will be seen. Then as we ascend over the Lamjura La Pass (3550 m), the iconic silhouette of Everest will slowly start to emerge. And just behind it, its younger brother Lhotse will quietly reveal himself.

We will now turn north where the iconic Lukla airstrip is positioned. Mount Kongde Ri will be standing by to greet us with its impressive altitude of 6187 m.

07:40 AM: Refueling stop at Lukla, brief Sightseeing, 10 to 12 minutes.

Our pilot will stop the helicopter at Lukla for about ten to twelve minutes to refuel before we set off again. Meanwhile, we can get into any one of the delightful lodges of Lukla, and immerse in its beautiful setting sipping a hot cup of coffee.

07:50 AM: Resume the flight to Khumbu through Pheriche (4200 m)

Now, our ascent into the sky will deliver us not only the amazing mountain panoramas but also the extraordinarily unique view of the entire landscape of the Khumbu Valley.

During the flight, our captain will also keep us engaged with stories and events of the villages we will pass by. He will also inform us about the EBC tracks and the related fun facts about the landmarks we will fly over. Thus our flight will be all the while entertaining and informative.

After our chopper is refueled, it will now soar us over the astonishingly attractive villages of the amazing Sherpas. Below us, we can see the milky waters of Dudh Koshi making its way through these villages and we may also see many hikers proceeding beside this river toward their onward destination for the night.

From high above, we can also see the Sherpa community going about their daily lives, with children joyfully playing nearby. The lush greenery of rhododendrons, fir, and pine trees provides a cool shade to the villages below.

Before long, the blue-tiled roofs of numerous homes located on a small hill will come into view. This is Namche Bazaar, where we can even see its lively market bustling with activity.

As we continue with our flight, we will fly by Phortse Village and soon the colorful man-made structure of Tengboche Monastery will draw our attention. However, the true highlight here will be the stunning outline of Ama Dablam, regarded as the most stunning mountain on the planet.

The snowy crowns of Nuptse, Everest, and Lhotse can also be seen on the horizon. Now, the ancient Pangboche monastery will come into our view and soon the deserted rocky land of the Pheriche surrounded by gigantic mountains will be arrived.

Attention:

Kindly understand that at this point, our pilot may decide to land us at Pheriche if our group size exceeds three. In that case, he will split our group into two smaller groups so an even weight can be maintained in the chopper.

This action is necessary because the helicopter can carry a maximum of 500 kg until we reach Lukla, but the limit is reduced to 250 kg due to the high altitude after that point.

After the split, one group will be taken to Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar, and then to the Everest View Hotel. While that group is at the hotel, the pilot will bring the other group back to Pheriche.

The waiting group in Pheriche can have personal encounters with the modest Sherpa people and watch their magnetic culture and way of life. You may never know what you will uncover- may be the magic spell to find joy in every circumstance, just like they do.

08:25 AM: Flight over EBC (5364 m), landing at Kala Patthar (5644 m) for 10 minutes

As we resume our helicopter adventure from Pheriche, we will fly over the picturesque hamlet of Dughla, and adjacent to it, we can see the 4830 m high Thukla Pass covered by the cascade of colorful prayer flags.

This sacred site honors the memory of climbers and mountaineers who disappeared into the mountains. They definitely deserve our thoughts and prayers. Look beneath you as the terrain suddenly takes the form of rugged barren wilderness.

Lobuche is here and so is Khumbu Glacier along with Pumori (7161 m), Cho La Pass (5420 m) and Lobuche Peaks (6119 m). Soon, the deserted rocky land of Gorak Shep (5140 m) will appear before us which prides to be the highest settlement in this breathtaking region.

We are minutes away from the grand EBC (Everest Base Camp). This iconic camp in spring period often turns into a beautiful colorful town of tents where adventurers prepare to tackle the mighty Everest.

While, they may be not there but the ever-standing enormous Khumbu Icefall will be right before us along with the enchanting peaks of Nuptse, Pumori, Khumbutse, and Lhotse.

Now after flying for around ten minutes, we will catch sight of the striking black stone of Kala Patthar, our landing spot where will spend about ten minutes in this stunning environment.

Please understand that we won’t be able to linger here for too long as altitude sickness can quickly set in at such a high elevation. However, every second of our short ten minutes will be more than sufficient to absorb the majestic vibes of Pumori, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Khumbutse, Everest, Changtse, Lobuche, Nuptse, Lingtren, and many others.

Our pilot will keep the helicopter engine running to ensure immediate evacuation for anyone who may show signs of altitude sickness.

08:45 AM: Fly and Land at Everest View Hotel (3880 m) for breakfast, 1 hour

Moving away from Kala Patthar will be difficult but we must move on and continue with our journey and ascend to the planet’s highest elevated hotel known as Everest View perched on the hill of Syangboche.

This extraordinary Japanese-built red-colored hotel was recognized by the Guinness World Records in 2004 as the Highest Hotel in the world.

However, it is known for providing the ideal setting to watch the kaleidoscope of mountains (Taboche, Cholatse, Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Thamserku) while relaxing and indulging in tasty breakfast and drinks.

We will have a full hour to immerse ourselves in the beauty of this magnificent amphitheater.

09:45 AM: Kathmandu Flight Back/ Possible stop for refueling at Lukla

We will now depart from the enthralling mountains, villages, and people and journey back to Kathmandu. There might be a quick stop at Lukla Airport for a helicopter refueling.

11:45 AM: Arrival at TIA and transfer to your hotel

After we land at TIA, we will once again proceed to complete the necessary formalities. We will now accompany you to your lodging; rejoice in what you achieve in your adventure and share the thrill of finishing the private Everest base camp helicopter tour with landing at Kala Patthar.

Note: Time may be change due to weather and air traffic.

Spring Everest is replete with green valleys and rivers while winter Everest means spectacular snow-capped peaks that showcase all its natural majesty.

Autumn transforms Everest into a beautiful canvas of yellow and brown foliage, and summer brings generous rainfall that showers the region.

  •  Affordable Cost

Our private Everest base camp helicopter tour with landing at Kala Patthar begins at a price of USD 1600 per person for people traveling alone in the helicopter. ( min 4 Pax required)

If you participate in a group, the tour price will go down according to the number of participants. For groups of 11 to 16, the price is USD 1300 per person, while for groups of 6 to 10, it rises slightly to USD 1400 per person. For groups of 3 to 5, the cost is USD 1500 per person, and for a group of 2, it is USD 1800 per person.

On the other hand, the average cost for an Everest Base Camp trek ranges between USD 1300 to USD 1600 per person. Therefore, the costs are very similar, with our tour providing you with a quicker route to reach the top of Kala Patthar without the lengthy days of hiking.

Which Everest Base Camp helicopter tour should I choose: the private option or the group tour?

If the exclusive charm of Everest, with its stunning terrain and majestic presence, is your element, then a private Everest base camp helicopter tour with a landing at Kala Patthar will be a perfect option for you.

It will be a personalized experience for you that will allow you to customize your travel plans entirely. You will enjoy the splendid views all to yourself from the best seat available. You will also be free from the waiting time which is common in group tours.

In addition, a private tour means a lighter helicopter, which can reach up to 6300 to 7000 m heights. This elevation will reveal a whole new world of breathtaking sights, including those elusive sites which often remain hidden when flying at lower altitudes.

However, it doesn’t mean that group tours only have downsides. The Everest base camp helicopter tour in the group also has some undeniable perks. And one of its main strength is its affordability.

In the group tour, the expenses (fuel, heli ride, etc) are split equally among all the participants so the price per person goes down to a much more affordable level.

However, this shared experience means you won’t enjoy the same level of exclusivity that lone travelers do. You will have to wait for your turn to have the best seat so you can fully appreciate the incredible views.

So, it all comes down to the type of journey and adventure you like to feel. If exclusivity is your main goal, then our private tour is ideal for you. But if you like to share the journey and are considering your budget, then our group tour will be a fantastic option for you.

Which one is a better option: the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour or the Everest Base Camp Trek?

No single journey in Nepal is complete without seeing and reaching the Everest. If you have just taken another trekking adventure in Nepal but still longing to touch the Everest, then our Everest base camp helicopter tour 2024 is just what you need.

Even if you have limited time be it a day or half-day in Kathmandu, you can still undertake this incredible adventure. Within the span of just 4 hours, you will stand on top of the enormous Kala Patthar and see Everest within a stone’s throw distance.

Not only Everest but other 8000 m and higher snowy giants will also be there to hail you. And, all this reward will be given to you without the hassle of any strenuous long hiking or tough terrain. You can easily take this journey all the while experiencing the comfort you genuinely deserve.

Yes, the tour is short but it ensures you experience everything a classic Everest Base Camp trek basically offers. From above, you will enjoy the panoramic views of lush jungles, bright rhododendrons, and rugged hills, along with the Dudh Koshi, Bhote Koshi, and Imja Khola rivers.

You will also see the stunning Tengboche and Pangboche Monasteries, the challenging Thukla Pass, and, of course, Everest Base Camp itself. For ten unforgettable minutes, you will have a captivating moment at Kala Patthar.

In addition, you will spend an hour dining at the highest hotel on the planet. All in all, our Mt Everest base camp helicopter tour includes every aspect of a classic EBC trek.

However, the Everest Base Camp trek provides an opportunity for a unique and intimate connection with the majestic mountains, their inhabitants, and the stunning landscape.

As you traverse the incredible terrain of Everest, you will be able to feel the rich Khumbu soil beneath your feet and the cool air of Everest on your skin.

Your heart will pound with joy as you gaze upon the breathtaking views of Ama Dablam and Everest, a true reward for all your efforts. From above, you can only have the glimpses of lush jungles and vibrant rhododendrons, but it is on the ground where you can truly touch them, smell them, and feel them.

From above, you may catch sight of monks in their monasteries, but walking among them allows you to interact with them and absorb invaluable life lessons that will transform your perspective.

You can also see the rushing waters of the Dudh Koshi from above, but nothing compares to walking alongside it. Few words are incapable to describe this experience; it must be felt to be understood. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to meet the remarkable Sherpa people and spend nights in their warm, welcoming homes.

So each EBC trip has some strong point and some weak point, so it is difficult for us to suggest you one. However, one thing is certain, both options will help you realize your dream of experiencing the majestic Everest up close.

Best Time for Mt Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

You can take the Everest Base camp helicopter tour during any season that suits you. Whether it is winter, autumn, summer, or, spring, this adventure is available year-round. This is because helicopter flights can operate even in mild adverse weather, making it accessible at any time.

However, the Mt Everest base camp helicopter tour is all about the ultimate sightseeing experience from above, so it is best to choose the clearest and driest days of the year.

The prime times for the condition are during autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May), when temperatures linger comfortably between 15 to 20 degrees Celsius so you can travel light.

On these days, the skies are a brilliant blue, and the once barren terrain below transforms into a breathtaking landscape filled with multiple shades of pink, red, and green.

When winter descends after autumn from December and lasts till February, the heat during the day is often comfortably pleasant between 10 to 15 degrees Celsius.

However, the mornings can be frosty and foggy which can prevent the early morning helicopter ride from taking off. However, once the sun breaks through, the rest of the day will be delightful filled with radiant sunshine and stunning mountain views.

As summer starts to appear, so does the monsoon rain of June, July, and August, the days will be mostly dominated by frequent showers and cloudy days. There can be frequent flight cancellations but not all days of summer can be rainy. The only shortcoming of this season is you have to wait for the perfect clear day to take to the skies.

Difficulty Level and Eligibility for Participation in the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

Our Mt Everest base camp helicopter tour is not only the easiest, shortest, luxurious, and affordable trip but also the safest journey to reach Everest.

The journey commences and concludes in Kathmandu, which means no overnight stays in basic mountain lodges are required. The entire experience lasts only 5 hours which eliminates the need for lengthy and arduous treks or climbs, making it accessible for individuals from ages 5 to 80.

There is also a very low risk of altitude sickness, and in the rare event that it occurs, then participants can be quickly taken to lower altitudes for prompt treatment. This makes the tour particularly suitable for those with any mild health concerns.

And, if you were unable to reach Everest due to physical limitations or time constraints, this tour would be an excellent option for you.

Health and Fitness for the Mt Everest base camp helicopter tour

Our Everest base camp helicopter tour 2024 invites everyone. However, if you have severe asthma, respiratory infections, illnesses, bronchitis, or cardiovascular conditions, we strongly suggest you seek advice from your doctor before participating in this tour.

Please remember, although trekking is not part of our itinerary, we will still be ascending to high altitudes and spending time above 3,500 m. This can exacerbate these conditions even with minimal exposure to high mountain air.

Additionally, if you have a strong fear of heights or flying in an aircraft, we advise you to refrain from this tour and consider the EBC trek instead.

Acute Mountain Sickness during Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

The risk of acute mountain sickness commonly known as altitude sickness during our Everest base camp helicopter tour is very low. Although there are no longer treks involved, still we cannot deny the fact that there is a slight chance of altitude sickness.

As we will ascend to over 3,000 m within just an hour, our bodies may struggle to adjust to the thinner air at that elevation. This can lead to mild conditions such as headaches, drowsiness, nausea, fatigue, and shortness of breath.

Similarly, at Kala Patthar, where the altitude rises over 5,000 m, the reduced oxygen levels can be quickly noticeable. For this reason, we have allocated only 10 minutes for our stay at Kala Patthar.

However, you don’t have to be concerned as our helicopters are equipped with oxygen systems that are automatically managed above 3,000 meters.

If you experience any symptoms, the helicopter can quickly descend to a lower altitude for your comfort. It is necessary that you inform our pilot at once if you start to feel any physical discomfort.

To help prevent altitude sickness, we suggest you take one tablet of Diamox before the tour starts to aid in the quick adaptation of your body. Additionally, we also encourage all guests to carry a water bottle to maintain adequate hydration throughout the entire flight.

Permits Requirement for the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

Although our Everest base camp helicopter tour 2024 does not involve several days of trekking through the protected territory of the Sagarmatha National Park, we still require permits for the Sagaramatha National Park and for the Khumbu Municipality.

It is because, on this tour, we will spend 10 minutes at Kala Patthar before enjoying an hour of breakfast at the Everest View Hotel. Please remember that the park permit can be arranged in Kathmandu from the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) office or the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) department located in Bhrikuti Mandap.

If you wish, we can arrange the permit acquisition for you, but please remember that the price for the permit are not pat of our tour package. Also, remember that the municipality permit can only be obtained in Syangboche.

So you will also have the alternate option of securing both the park permit and the municipality permit at the Everest View Hotel in Syangboche, where a Sagarmatha National Park representative will come to collect the fees and issue the permits.

Our Everest Base Camp helicopter tour package does not cover these fees. But the costs are quite affordable: the local area permit is $20 per person, and the National Park permit is $35 per person.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is not a mandatory requirement for our Everest Base Camp helicopter tour; however, we strongly suggest you to obtain a policy that has comprehensive coverage.

Traveling to a foreign land mostly involves certain unthinkable risks. Nepal is generally safe and we ensure your safety throughout the tour, still, unforeseen events can occur.

Incidents such as baggage theft or loss, flight cancellations, delays, or the need for medical treatment or evacuation can happen unexpectedly. In these circumstances, you will have to mage for yourself for any incurring costs, that can lead to additional expenses.

Securing travel insurance with all the needed coverage will help to shield you from all these potential financial burdens.
