Many of the places we visit today are UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley. The Kathmandu Valley is home to 7 of Nepal’s 12 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We’ll start our excursion by driving you to the Pashupatinath Temple. This is Nepal’s most revered Hindu temple devoted to Lord Shiva.
There will be an enormous crowd here, especially on Mondays, as Monday is Lord Shiva’s day. Devotees believe that worshipping that day brings prosperity and happiness. After exploring the Pashupatinath temple and its other premises, we will drive toward Boudha Nath Stupa.
This stupa is known to be the largest stupa on earth and is home to more than fifty Tibetan monasteries. You will see monks and local people circling the stupa, believing it will purify negative karma, bring positive energy, and cultivate mindfulness. The aura of this stupa is so unique that you will feel the peaceful atmosphere after stepping inside.
After exploring this stupa, we’ll head to Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is home to Hanuman Dhoka. Many distinct architectural styles and temples can be found here, including pagodas, shikharas, and Malla Dynasty architecture. This was once home to legendary kings who helped shape today’s Kathmandu Valley.
The major attractions of Kathmandu Durbar Square are Kumari Ghar, Kasthamandap, Vishnu Temple, Jagannath Temple, Shiva Parvati Temple, the Taleju Temple, the Tribhuvan Museum, and others. Trip Information
Best Time for Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour
One of the sacred places for Hindus and Buddhists is Muktinath, which lies in the breathtaking Mustang region in Nepal. So, when’s the absolute best time to make that journey? While it’s opened all year round, each season offers a different experience.
Spring
One of the best times to visit Jomsom and Muktinath is also the spring season, offering ideal weather and smooth travel experiences in Nepal. In this season, the temperature can be mild but varying. Expect the occasional light snow showers and sudden rain due to the lovely blossoming flowers, such as fragrant rhododendrons and jasmine, as well as the fresh, earthy soil that enhances the journey’s charm.
However, it’s the peak season; anticipate larger crowds and slightly higher costs for accommodation and food. Despite this, you will see the vast and breathtaking landscape come to life as spring feels like nature awakening from a lengthy slumber, greeting you with beautiful, eye-catching colors.
Autumn
Autumn is an ideal season, best for the Muktinath Pilgrimage tour. In this season, the skies are clear, the views are breathtaking, and the weather is stable, which is best for tour. In addition, you will get to experience some vibrant culture. Many journeyers choose this season knowing it’s safe from natural disasters like floods and landslides.
However, it’s also festival season in Nepal, like Dashain and Tihar, so expect more crowds and higher prices. A gain? The most stable and best views are postcard-perfect mountain panoramas. Since it’s the crowded season, you should book your flights and accommodations in advance.
Winter
This season can be both tough and rewarding. If you are an introverted lone traveler, this can be one of the ideal times to travel. Consider scenes covered in snow and the idea of being serenely alone. However, you should be experienced and know how to survive in the winter.
As we all know, winter is the toughest season to visit. The road to the destination may be obstructed, and lodging at high altitudes becomes difficult, but it is also the finest time for the Muktinath excursion. Because of the calmer atmosphere and smaller crowds, you may connect spiritually and forget all the long-awaited journeys you’ve had to get there.
Summer
Summer is monsoon season with hot and heavy rain. Due to the difficult weather, fewer people travel. If you still want to go despite knowing all of this, the Dolpo and Nar-Phu valleys are the finest options because the ground they are located on is drier than the other locations.
Although there is a lot of greenery at this time of year, there is also a lot of rain and landslides, especially on the way to Jomsom. Unpredictable weather and travel routes may cause concern. Despite the hardships, this season offers a more serene journey. However, if you get off and decide to walk on such trails, be prepared for muddy, slippery, and leech-infested trails in the lower area.
Elevation and distance on Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour
Although the Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour is not a trekking adventure, it still takes you above 3500 meters in altitude. Your journey starts from Kathmandu city at 1324 meters and takes you to the lower elevations of 820 meters in Pokhara. From Pokhara, you will take a 20- to 25-minute flight to Jomsom, a town at an elevation of 2743 meters.
After that, your journey will continue towards Muktinath, passing via Kagbeni Village at 2804 meters. Muktinath Temple, standing at 3710 meters, is the highest destination of this Muktinath Pilgrimage tour. Similarly, you will cover 260 to 262 kilometers (161 to 162 miles) by road.
When you first drive to Pokhara from Kathmandu, you will cover 200 kilometers. Similarly, you will cover 50 kilometers or 31 miles when you drive to Muktinath from Jomsom via Kagbeni in a round trip. Sarangkot Viewpoint is just 12 kilometers (7 miles) from Lakeside Pokhara.
You will cover 360 km or 224 miles by air in this Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour. By air, you will cover 160 km (100 miles) from Pokhara to Jomsom or vice versa. Thus, the total distance combined by road and air will be 622 kilometers or 386 miles.
Difficulty and altitude sickness
The difficulty level of this journey is easy as you travel by flight and road transportation. However, altitude sickness can be a problem in terms of difficulty when you are embarking on this 7-day Muktinath Pilgrimage tour. Muktinath Temple sits at an altitude of 3710 meters, or 12172 feet, which can lead to a risk of altitude sickness.
The quick transition from Pokhara to Jomsom, especially by air, increases the probability of altitude sickness. As you will not have an extra day to acclimatize in Jomsom, the journey is prone to altitude-related sickness. So, you must be aware of its symptoms, such as shortness of breath, light-headedness, loss of appetite, vomiting, and so on, so necessary preventive measures can be taken.
So, to avoid altitude sickness, avoid smoking and consuming alcohol, and drink enough water to keep your body hydrated. Even though this is not a trekking expedition, you must take the required precautions to ensure a safe Muktinath pilgrimage tour.
Maximum and minimum ride per day on Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour
The minimum ride per day on this Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour will be on the sixth day, just 30 to 45 minutes during an early morning drive to Sarangkot Viewpoint to see the stunning sunrise over the Himalayas. Similarly, the maximum ride per day will be the third day, about five to six hours, when you travel to Pokhara from Kathmandu in a private vehicle.
The average ride per day on this Nepal Muktinath tour package will be 2 to 3 hours, as you will spend this time sightseeing in Kathmandu and Pokhara. The ride from Jomsom to Muktinath round trip takes three to four hours.
Accommodation, Food and Drink
After arriving in Nepal, we will transfer you to a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu, where you will stay for a total of three nights on this 7-day Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour. All lodging costs are already included in the package. If you want an upgrade from 3-star to 4-star or 5-star, we can also do that at an extra cost.
But you need to tell us before your arrival in Nepal so that we can make proper arrangements for your comfortable stay. You will be served breakfast only, whereas lunch and dinner are not included in the package, which provides you an excellent opportunity to eat food of your choice.
Similarly, this Muktinath Pilgrimage tour package includes a two-night stay at a three-star hotel in Pokhara. Even if a 3-star hotel is not as lavish as a 5-star hotel, it nevertheless offers excellent amenities such as comfortable rooms, hot and cold showers, housekeeping, laundry service, free Wi-Fi, and many more to ensure a happy stay.
While visiting Muktinath Temple, you will stay in a basic hotel in Jomsom. Furthermore, 3-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara offer a diverse choice of breakfast alternatives, including bread and bakery goods, egg dishes, traditional Nepali breakfast (sel roti, puri tarkari, aloo paratha, etc.), sandwiches, tea, coffee, and so on.
Lunch and dinner are not included, so you can eat wherever you choose while traveling to other destinations, such as cafés, restaurants, and pubs. You may sample traditional Nepali cuisines such as dal bhat tarkari, Thakali Khana, Newari meals, momos, sel roti, and noodles.
Various European and American dishes that are prepared in different ways, such as pizza, salads, steaks, burgers, Chinese, Indian, and sushi, are also offered. If you have a love for food, Kathmandu and Pokhara are the best places to experience a variety of delicious foods, which will make your Muktinath pilgrimage tour an unforgettable event.
For beverage options, you can try a lot of tasty drinks like lassi, fresh fruit juices, coffee, herbal teas, masala chai, and alcoholic beverages like wine, beer, cocktails, and so on. However, for your health, you should not drink alcoholic products while embarking on the Muktinath Pilgrimage tour.
Alternative Routes
The Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour is a lifetime journey, especially for spiritual seekers and adventure enthusiasts. This journey is a standard route to Muktinath: flying to Jomsom and then driving to Kagbeni and Muktinath. However, there are several other alternative routes for this trip, which are briefly explained below:
Trekking from Pokhara to Muktinath:If you love trekking, this might be the best option for reaching Muktinath. This walk will take you from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani, passing via popular villages such as Poon Hill, Tatopani, Kagbeni, and finally to Muktinath, with each overnight stay.
Jomsom to Muktinath by road:If you are sick of flying all the time and have more time on your hands, you can choose to travel by road. You can drive to Jomsom from Pokhara, pass through Beni, continue the drive to Kagbeni, and finally reach Muktinath.
Helicopter Ride to Muktinath:If you want to experience the Muktinath Pilgrimage tour with ease and comfort, this can be the perfect alternative to reach the Muktinath Temple. With a bird’s-eye view, you will be rewarded with scenic views of landscapes and snow-blanketed peaks. This journey is also suitable for people who have minimal time in Nepal to save more time.
Above are a few alternative options that you can select according to your time availability and preference. Each route will offer an extraordinary experience on this Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour, with many unforgettable memories.
Who can join this Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour?
To be honest, anyone drawn to a place like Muktinath is likely one of those devout pilgrims seeking spiritual fruition and wishing to visit a sacred place. Individuals searching for inner peace and a connection to something larger than themselves are simply spiritual seekers.
Additionally, individuals like travelers looking for a challenging Himalayan tour and unique cultural experience can plan to join this Muktinath pilgrimage tour. There is no age restriction for visiting this holy place. You can gladly join this tour with your family members or with friends to enjoy the beauty.
Preparation and fitness for Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour
Even though you don’t have to be in great physical shape to embark on the Muktinath Pilgrimage tour, you should still have good health conditions. Because you are traveling to a high-altitude destination in Nepal. The higher altitude can cause problems, although you are traveling via transportation without trekking.
You can prepare yourself for this 7-day Muktinath Pilgrimage journey by doing some light exercises at home and packing the necessary items for travel. Another solution for avoiding altitude sickness is to drink plenty of water. Another crucial preparation for any journey is having a good attitude and positive mindset, which will heighten your travel experience with many memorable moments.
Gadgets charging and Internet
Most 3-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara provide free electricity and internet on this 7-day pilgrimage tour. They also have charging outlets like standard Type A or Type C in the rooms for any gadgets you bring from home. Some hotels can also provide plug adaptors if needed.
In Jomsom, charging options may be limited depending on which hotel you stay in. Due to its secluded location, there may still be frequent power cuts. So, you should bring a portable power bank with you so that you don’t have to face any problems, even power cuts. It will also help while traveling in a vehicle if your battery dies.
In the same way, Wi-Fi is also much less reliable in Jomsom, and due to the remote nature of the area, you could face slow internet connection issues. However, in the cities, the internet connection is very good. Nonetheless, buying SIMs when traveling to use mobile data is a wise choice.
Thanks to mobile data, you can stay connected with the world even when you are traveling, enhancing your travel experience during the Muktinath Pilgrimage tour. Call your loved ones anytime and have daily conversations about your travel diary. So, it is always better to travel with the preparation by bringing power banks and using SIM data.
Transportation
The Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour package includes all transportation costs except international airfare to and from Kathmandu and a cable car ticket in Manakamana. On the second day, you will use our company’s transportation to sightsee different UNESCO-listed World Heritage sites.
Similarly, we will go to Pokhara in a private vehicle from Kathmandu City rather than a tourist bus for your comfortable and safe travels. On the fourth and fifth days, we will fly from Pokhara to Jomsom and from Jomsom to Pokhara, for which the plane ticket cost is included in the Muktinath Pilgrimage tour package.
We will use a private jeep to visit Muktinath from Jomsom, driving through the Kagbeni Village. While returning to Kathmandu, we will take a flight from Pokhara. Apart from this, our services include picking you up from the airstrip and transferring you to the hotel after you arrive in Nepal, as well as a drop-off service.
Travel Insurance
One of the significant things you need to do before going to the Himalayas and getting involved in the Jomsom Pilgrimage tour is to get a suitable travel cover. In your policy, the insurance company must include a long list of situations, such as accidents, medical emergencies, trip cancellations, loss of belongings, and others, all of which are covered.
The most crucial part is to note that in Nepal, you have to pay for emergency evacuation if your insurance does not directly cover it. Never buy travel insurance unless you are certain that it covers trekking in the Himalayas.
Your duty is to do thorough research when selecting the insurance company and ensure that the insurance you purchase covers your Nepal Muktinath Tour package and its needs.
What to expect from this trip?
This Nepal Muktinath tour package will treat you to a combination of spirituality, natural beauty, and cultural exploration. Look forward to Muktinath Temple, a place of pilgrimage with 108 holy water spouts from where you can cleanse the body and soul and pray for blessings.
This spiritual soul journey includes a trip from Kathmandu to Pokhara, Jomsom, and Kagbeni. These cities display Nepal’s rich cultural and scenic beauty and come to an end of the journey. Jomsom, where you stay, the flight is the perfect time to catch the sunrise and witness the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges through the clear sky.
Having a private vehicle and flight as a mode of transportation can accommodate people of different ages. After experiencing the sunrise from Sarangkot, you can see the breathtaking Serene Lake in Pokhara and visit Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and other Kathmandu cultural sites. It’s a problem-free and spiritual experience like no other in this part of the world.
This 7-day Muktinath tour package promises an adventure-filled experience with lasting impressions. You will finish this excursion quickly and affordably, seeing both the natural beauty and cultural richness of Nepal.
Your Extra Expenses
While the Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour includes most travel requirements, there are also extra costs. One is a Nepal visa fee you must pay, which you can get quickly upon arriving at Kathmandu Airport.
Furthermore, you will need extra money for the entrance fees of various attraction sites in the Kathmandu, Nagarkot, and Pokhara areas because they are not included in the package. Purchasing a cable car ticket is essential if you choose to go to the Manakamana temple.
Additionally, not included is international travel to and from Kathmandu. You will be responsible for paying for personal expenses, including drinks, phone calls, laundry, bar bills, and bottled or boiling water. For a trouble-free trip, you may thus also check your Nepal Muktinath tour package to discover what is and is not included.
Weather in the Mustang region
The Mustang region, including Muktinath, has a dry and arid climate due to the Himalayan rain shadow. Most of the year, the area receives very little rainfall, making the landscapes parched and dirty, with clear skies and invigorating air. Under the sun, the temperature can be moderate, offering comfortable conditions for travelers. Mostly at night, the temperature drops, often dipping below freezing in Upper Mustang.
Despite the harsh weather, the crisp air, and the unhindered mountains, Mustang is a unique and breathtaking destination. Throughout the journey, travelers should be prepared for changing temperatures and dry conditions. Higher elevations like Lo Manthang experience significantly colder temperatures than lower areas (Jomsom, Kagbeni). Particularly during colder periods, snow occurs mainly in higher regions.
Local Life, Traditions, and Festivals
Nepalese are considered some of the best people in the world, and they have great hospitality. If you travel to Jomsom or Muktinath, you will likely be greeted with warm hospitality. When you visit, you will notice that life here is different from other parts of Nepal, with a distinct blend of culture, prayer flags fluttering everywhere, and the sight of people spinning prayer wheels.
The daily lives of people in Jomsom or Muktinath are involved in farming, especially apples, barley, and buckwheat. You will see the mix of Thakali and Tibetan culture. A significant part of this region is yak herding. Life seems challenging due to the cold and dry climate, but people have adapted to it over generations
In addition, you will be fascinated by the locals’ strong sense of community, modest way of life, and deeply rooted religious credence. Pilgrims from Nepal and India mostly visit Muktinath Temple, believing its sacred water can wash away sins. People believe the temple’s everlasting fire burns from underground gas, symbolizing a sacred connection to God.
Your Personal Safety and Responsibility
Wherever you go, it is essential first to consider your health and safety. You must be careful in cities and watch out for scammers and taxi drivers who overcharge, especially at the airport and tourist centers. You should also be wary of pickpockets, as they may be in the town and temple areas.
Whether traveling in Nepal’s mountains or cities, bring a guide with your group. One thing that is certain about terrain is that the weather can be unpredictable. Therefore, having a guide who is an expert in that area will be your best protection.
While moving into the mountains, it is better not to carry jewelry or other valuable things. Keep all the necessary things in a safe place, no matter what. For example, you may need your passport, travel permits, mobile, and camera. Along with that, the last thing you want to happen is to be careless with your money and lose your belongings.
Also, be cautious with the local animals, avoid getting too close, and stop taking pictures that may interfere with them or the environment. Traveling responsibly and being aware of your actions allows for increased enjoyment and a better understanding of the places you visit.
In the end, members of the community will benefit if you are able to respect their culture and tradition and share something that will be useful to you as well. Adapting to the customs and traditions of Nepal with open-mindedness is a great way to enrich your Muktinath Pilgrimage tour. This is one sure way to find peace and be welcomed wholeheartedly in any place, irrelevant to your origin.
