Best Time Pikey Peak Trek
If you want to have the best hiking experience, you should travel in the perfect time to enhance your experience. At any time of the year, a person can experience a unique climate, which makes their visit enjoyable. The best times have clear skies and mystical views. You are free to go whenever it is most comfortable for you. Following are the seasons that you can choose to trek on your preferences:
Autumn (September to November):Seasonally, people should take the opportunity in autumn to go on a 9-day pikey peak trek journey due to clear skies, the mountains’ direct views, and quiet pleasant walking conditions. Daily temperatures from 9 to 15 degrees ensure an enjoyable hiking tour, whereas the evenings are cold, though some warmth can be managed with the appropriate clothing. The colors of the scenery in the fall are bright, lively, and shiny, making travel a fairy-tale-like experience.
On top of that, nature, in autumn, is a remembrance of the taste of the life of the area. Famous festivals like Dashain and Tihar bring the paths to vitality with the local celebrations. These events offer the trekker a nice chance to join in the open-heartedness of the local people. The place will be crowded in this season, but if you hike in the early days of autumn, it will be quiet and peaceful.
Spring (March to May): The trek to pikey peak in spring transforms the forests with the contrasting rhododendron blooms. After a night at pikey peak base, trekkers enjoy a sunrise before the following ridge to Junbesi, where they can explore the Thubten Choling monastery. The tender weather, with temperatures around 20 to 25 degrees Celsius and clear skies, reveals several famous majestic Himalayas, including Everest, that can make spring a perfect time for trekking.
The season is marked by lush greenery and the sweet aroma of blooming rhododendrons. However, as spring ends, the monsoon season brings the possibility of rain and muddy trails. Trekkers should be prepared for occasional showers.
Summer (June to August): The 9-day pikey peak trek in summer season have a hot, damp weather with regular downpours, which makes the slippery and challenging trails. Due to threats like landslides and flooding, this time of year is regarded as off-peak for trekking, yet it provides a remarkable moment for daring hikers. Higher heights offer temperate weather with a mix of pine needles, blooming flowers, earthy soil, and a touch of dampness that turns into a green paradise.
The trek to Pikey Peak is not recommended in the summer season due to fierce climate conditions. But still, for those willing to travel in these conditions, proper waterproof gear and extra preparations are essential. As a substitute, shadow regions like Nar Phu and Annapurna may be safer and more pleasurable during this time.
Winter (December to February): Pikey Peak trek weaves a quilt of white, blanketing the trails in snowy delight, creating a heartwarming paradise with broad skyline views of Everest. Temperature ranges from 5°Cto -5°Cduring the solar day and as less as -17°C at dusk.
The cold winds and heavy snowfalls might make walking challenging, but the fitting gears can make your journey safe and pleasant. Anyone looking for a peaceful journey finds trails with beautiful views during this time of the year. Local celebrations like Maghe Sankranti and Losar add significance to the trip, combining the best aspects of natural beauty and cultural fascination.
Elevation and distance
Every day of the Pikey Peak hike, you will pass through different elevations. After landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, you would be at an altitude of 1324 meters in Kathmandu, a dynamic metropolis. The experience begins the next day with a long drive from Kathmandu to Dhap Bazaar, which is located at an elevation of 2932 meters (9619 feet).
Similarly, your first goal of this trekking plan is reaching the Pikey Peak base camp, which lies at an elevation of 3640 m (11,942 ft). The real adventure begins from Dhap Bazaar to Jhapre, which lies at an altitude of 2921 m (9583 ft), giving you a chance to stretch your legs, get used to the rhythm of trekking, and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.
As we make our way down the paths, we arrive at the much-anticipated pikey base camp, which spans approximately 13.7 kilometers (8.5 miles) in 5 to 6 hours, where the scenery begins to change and the true interest begins. The air is crisper, the soil smells earthier, and the vistas are more wide-ranging.
After this day, you will reach Junbesi’s serene layout. A more relaxed one, which is roughly 10.2 kilometers (6.3 miles). The final hike from Junbesi to Phalpu, which is around 9.2 kilometers (5.7 miles) long and marks the finish of our trekking excursion is the most arduous part of the Pikey Peak trek.
After completing the Pikey Peak walk, there is a 35-minute flight from Phalpu back to Kathmandu, providing breathtaking views of the Himalayas and a wonderful journey through Nepal’s heartland.
Difficulty and altitude sickness
The difficulty of the Pikey Peak trek journey might be described as moderate, getting a little more tough as you go up. The highest point of your trek is 3640 meters above sea level. Trekking above 3000 m can be a little bit challenging due to the low level of oxygen. Some paths involve steep ascents, while some have steep descents.
This trek is not as complex as other trails, though it can be difficult for trekkers who are not used to walking daily, which may break their endurance limit. However, experienced, physically strong, and healthy travelers are encouraged to engage on this excursion and embrace the amazing world of nature.
Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is the mildest kind encountered during trekking and is fairly common at higher altitudes. Symptoms that may arise include dizziness, headache, muscle aches, and nausea. Listen to your body and descend immediately if you experience any symptoms. Altitude sickness can happen anywhere at high altitudes, even if you are fit and delicate at the time.
Being the hero and disregarding your body’s warning signals in the mountains is not courageous; it is dangerous and can be lethal. The key is prevention; consult with a doctor before the trek about altitude sickness and any potential medications that can be useful. Remain hydrated, keep off booze and inhaling tobacco, dine light meals, and don’t struggle yourself too much on this trek to Pikey Peak journey.
Maximum and minimum walk per day
On this Pikey Peak Trek journey, you need to hike for about 5 to 6 hours regularly. So, you need to have good physical fitness, good health, and a positive mindset to complete this 9-day short trip in the Solu Khumbu region. Your maximum hike per day will be on day 6, about six to seven hours, when you trek to Junbesi from Pikey Peak Base Camp via Pikey Peak.
Similarly, your minimum trekking days will be on days 4 and 7, when you trek to Jhapre from Dhap Bazaar via Sigane Village and Phaplu Town from Junbesi Village. This is a moderate-level trek, so you don’t need any experience or specific climbing skills to embark on this journey.
Accommodations During Pikey Peak Trek
You will spend the first three nights of this Pikey Peak trek adventure at a three-star hotel in Kathmandu. During trekking, you will be accommodated in lodge or mountain teahouses. Here, you can get basic amenities such as twin bed with pillow, blanket, and bedsheet.
The welcoming atmosphere and culture of the area will let you enjoy the comfortable family-run lodging. Camping turns into an exciting choice as you get closer to Pikey Peak base camp because of the remote location. The rooms are usually clean and tidy which makes your stay even more comfortable and relaxing.
Foods and Drinks
Three-star Kathmandu hotel for three nights offers simple yet satisfying food and drinks to energize trekkers. Food alternatives may be limited during the 9-day Pikey Peak trek itinerary at higher altitudes. Except for alcohol, the package includes all meals and accommodations.
Along the path, most teahouses serve traditional Nepali foods such as dal bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetables), which are hearty and nourishing. Similarly, warming beverages like milk, black, and ginger tea are frequently available, a welcome relief in the cold highlands.
The meals are freshly made and filled with locally sourced ingredients. Each meal became a memorable part of the tour due to the host’s warmth and the teahouse’s intimate setting. However, personal expenses not covered in your Pikey Peak trek package, including hard drinks, local alcohol, and wines, will not be served during the hike.
Can beginner join this trip?
A well-trained beginner who has some experience or may not have it may also trekin the Everest region and complete the 9-day Pikey Peak Trek journey. This trek is not only meant for experienced trekkers but is also appropriate for beginners who wish to embark on the Pikey Peak Trek.
Though the Pikey Peak trek is not as famous as other trails like Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Base Camp, it offers a unique experience for adventurers seeking both natural beauty and challenge. Beginners with good mental health and a positive outlook can easily complete this trek. Trekkers should follow the guide’s directions and eat nutritious foods to avoid any issues while hiking.
Preparation and fitness for Pikey Peak Trek
Proper preparations are essential due to the moderate difficulty level of Pikey Peak Trek excursion. If you want to trek without any problems and embark on it, you must have appropriate training, which will help you overcome all the challenges thrown your way while trekking. Train for one to two months before your hiking trip to Nepal, depending on your fitness level.
Another crucial requirement of this trekking journey is that you have to be healthy and in good shape. There can be a lot of challenges that you need to face, but without a healthy body, it may worsen your condition further. You can do squats, sit-ups, planks, bench presses, calf raises, and so on for strength and endurance.
Similarly, for enhancing cardiovascular fitness, you can do swimming, lateral shuffles, aerobics, running, etc., to prepare you for several hours of trekking. Another effective preparation for the trekking journey is that you can carry a backpack and go hiking in nearby hills to get a taste of what it feels like to hike in steep ascents.
Trek to Pikey Peak is an adventure rather than a competition. Remember to train the other significant parts that require your focus while working through continuous up-and-down movement that will undoubtedly weary you. The limited facilities in this remote Himalayan area make it difficult to charge electronics and access the internet when you trek to Pikey Peak. However, most tea houses offer electricity, usually from solar panels or generators, which allows you to charge your electronics. However, power outages might occur; therefore, a power bank is a lifesaver.
Wi-Fi is available in many locations but is often slow and pricey. Cell phone network is not good, especially on higher levels. Typically, you must spend $2 to $6 per hour to charge your electrical gadgets, and Wi-Fi might cost between $2 and $5 per hour.
Permit
Trekkers require a special permit because the Pikey Peak trip travels through areas of Sagarmatha National Park. You cannot enter the Sagarmatha Region without this approval at any cost. To begin your journey without problems, you must first obtain a TMS (Trekking Information Management System) card.
The TIMS card, granted by the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu or Pokhara upon submission of the required papers, will keep you safe by tracking your trekking activities. Travelers may also need a permit for the Solu Khumbu region, depending on the route taken.

Private Trip Vs. Group Trip
During the Pikey Peak trek itinerary, both private trips and group trips have pros and cons of their own. If you wish to see Nepal’s natural and rich cultural pristine lavishness in a more customized manner, the private trip can be a perfect option.
However, a personalized tour might be pricey; have a guide who will pay closer attention to your needs. The itinerary will be more adaptable, allowing you to visit the most famous sites.
In contrast, if you are good at socializing and looking for a budget-friendly trip, a group trek will be perfect. You will join other travelers, sharing experiences, meeting new people, and bonding over the stunning Himalayan views.
Private treks highlight independence and quiet, while group treks foster community and friendship. Both choices are fulfilling. What you choose will rely on how you wish to hike on this excursion. Therefore, from our company’s point of view, a group trip is a more budget-friendly and appropriate option.
Guide and Porter Services
Pikey Peak itinerary difficulty can be extreme while embarking on this incredible adventure, and having a knowledgeable guide by your side can truly elevate the experience. Signing up a porter and a guide may not be mandatory for any trek if you are fit and fine with yourself.
Hiring local specialists will guarantee your safety and provide you with intriguing insights into the local way of life, flora, and fauna. They would also get a decent perception of the region’s routes, culture, and hidden gems.
In addition, the company will tack on the experience of a helpful and friendly guide and porters (1 porter for 2 clients), allowing you to immerse yourself in the eye-catching beauty of your surroundings without the burden of heavy backpacks. These sturdy and resilient individuals carry your gear so you can focus on the trail ahead and cherish every moment.
Your Extra Expenses
When you plan the Pikey Peak Trek Itinerary in Nepal, ensure you are prepared for any additional costs that may come up outside of the normal package includes. One of the most memorable expenses you may encounter is the Nepal visa fee, which may be easily obtained as soon as you touch down at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. International airfare to and from Kathmandu is another important price that should be included in your entire travel budget.
While in Kathmandu, you’ll need to cover entrance fees to cultural and historical sites, as these are not typically included in trekking packages. Additionally, meals in Kathmandu are often not covered, so you’ll need to budget for dining at local restaurants. Unexpected circumstances such as early arrival, late departure, or an unscheduled return from the mountains might require extra nights at a hotel in Kathmandu, which would be at your own expense.
Unpredictable weather or travel delays may result in lengthier stays on the mountain, incurring additional fees for lodging and food. Travel and rescue insurance are also recommended to cover unexpected events such as medical problems or evacuation. Personal expenses such as phone calls, laundry, charging electronic equipment, and hiring more porters, can pile up during the trek.
If you prefer bottled or boiled water and occasional hot showers, these conveniences typically come at an additional cost, especially in remote mountain regions. Preparing for these potential expenses ensures a smoother trekking experience and helps you avoid surprises. A well-planned and flexible Pikey Peak Trek budget will allow you to enjoy your trip to Nepal to the fullest while being ready for any unexpected costs.
