Best Time
The following are the best seasons which are explained below:
Autumn season
The autumn season is one of the best times to trek on the 5-day Everest view trek, where you will witness the clear mountainous views. Mostly in October, the time is perfect for outdoor activities with the cloudless skies and gorgeous vistas, where you can create memories with the best photography. It has a moderate climate, neither too cold nor too hot, with crisp air and stunning panoramas from Namche Bazaar.
Not only that, but the major Hindu festivals also contribute to Nepal’s beauty, notably Dashain and Tihar. The flower and lights are so captivating, and it is a slightly more tranquil experience. However, booking of the flight to Lukla, and you can also expect the bustling crowds on the trail.
Spring season
This period is marked by lower-altitude forests bursting into a vibrant display of the beloved, full-bloom rhododendron flowers and lush scenery. If you are lucky enough, you can even spot the national bird of Nepal, the Himalayan Monal, and also a musk deer along the way.
With consistently warm and moderate days, this season is perfect for travellers of all ages, promising beautiful memories. Trekking through the dense forest in spring, you’ll be treated to the soothing and mesmerizing sounds of birds. Additionally, the view of the magnificent Himalayan peaks from the lower elevations is genuinely spectacular.
Summer season
This season is mostly cloudy, and you may face challenges such as non-stop showers and slippery trails on the 5-day Everest View trek itinerary. As there are pros and cons to everything, the trail will welcome you with the lush greenery and the dust-free environment after the rain.
Moreover, you can see the cascading waterfalls and a few trekkers around. However, there are many risks associated with this monsoon season, such as obstructed trails and vistas; nevertheless, it is a good time for cultural immersion in the quieter village.
Winter season
The month from December to February brings both cold mornings and nights, especially in Manche Bazaar and the upland altitudes—some of the pros in this season are quiet, peaceful trails with fewer tourists. While embarking on this short Everest view trek journey, you can explore the surreal surroundings and the authentic Tengboche monastery without any disturbance.
However, trekkers may have difficulty finding the accommodation as it is off-season. Still, if you want solitude and are willing to confront hardships along the road, it is also a terrific area for a few short days of personal and adventurous trekking. Snow blockage is a possibility, however rare.
Elevation and distance
On this 5-day Everest View Trek itinerary, the trekking adventure begins in Lukla, situated at an elevation of 2860 meters. From here, you would walk to Phakding Village at 2610 meters to stay for the 1st overnight in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Then, your final destination on the trek will be Namche Bazaar, situated at an altitude of 3440 meters.
While in Namche Bazaar, you will embark on side hikes as part of an acclimatization day, such as to Khumjung Village at 3780 meters and Hotel Everest View at 3880 meters, the highest altitude destination you will reach on this 5-day journey. After exploration, you will conclude your trek at Lukla at 2860 meters.
On this short Everest View Trek adventure, your total walking distance may go up to 35 to 45 kilometers (22 to 28 miles) over four hiking days. On the other hand, your side trips on the third day will cover the total distance of 6 kilometers (3.7 miles). This trek essentially covers half the distance of the classic Everest Base Camp trail route.
Difficulty and altitude sickness
Trekkers with experience can also go on this hike, which is regarded as easy-moderate. It can be challenging for those without experience, but it is suitable for individuals starting a good fitness regimen. However, the trail includes many steep, random stone ascents and descents, where many people even tumble and get injured.
Additionally, the long, upsloping climb to Namche can be physically demanding as the altitude increases rapidly and the oxygen level gets thinner. In the remote mountain regions, the weather is entirely unpredictable, so you must prepare both mentally and emotionally and always have low expectations, being ready for any worst-case scenario that may occur.
Moreover, a concerning aspect of this 5-day Everest View Trek itinerary is altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS). Although the maximum height is approximately 3800 meters at the Hotel Everest View, some trekkers may still experience symptoms such as headache, nausea, suffocation, or dizziness. When this occurs, it is not appropriate to be ignorant or stubborn. Always tell the guide how you genuinely feel because prevention is always preferable to treatment.
When the situation is taking a turn for the worse, trekkers should immediately descend gradually and allow their bodies time to acclimatize, especially during the rest day at Namche Bazaar, where they experience the transition from a mild season, which helps them adapt to the upland elevations. It’s essential to understand that, whatever your age or degree of athletic ability, any individual can get altitude sickness.
In these modern days, most youngsters love to enjoy drinking alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Still, it is strictly recommended not to do that while trekking, because alcohol hinders acclimatisation, as it is also known as a respiratory depressant, which slows down your breathing rate. So, sauntering and taking rest when the body gives a sign are crucial keys to avoiding any fatality.
Maximum and minimum walk per day
This is a five-day short journey that requires only basic fitness. So, the average hiking time will be approximately five hours, including rest breaks. On the first day of trekking, you will walk for around four to five hours. The minimum duration you will need to walk is three to four hours when you go on a side hike on the third day.
In the same way, the maximum duration you will need to trek can be about six to seven hours on the second and fourth days when you trek from Phakding to Namche and from Namche to wrap up the trekking adventure in the mountains.
Accommodation, Food and Drink
During the short Everest View Trek, you are accommodated in a cosy yet straightforward lodge, offering trekkers an authentic mountain experience. Most lodges along the trail are traditional, often constructed with wood and stones; local Sherpa families operate the local teahouses.
Do not expect luxurious or fancy accommodations in the remote Himalayan region, as rooms are basic and typically furnished with twin-sharing beds, warm blankets, and shared bathrooms. While in the lower regions, for instance, Phakding and Namche Bazaar, some lodges offer added comforts such as hot showers, electricity, and a small fee for the privileges of Wi-Fi.
While embarking on this short Everest view trek itinerary, the food options are astoundingly diverse and hearty at the same time, keeping you energised as you conquer each day’s trek in the harsh, remote geographical terrain. Generally, you will find the most popular meal of the country, which is dal baht, a combination of rice, lentil soup, and vegetable curries that provides lasting energy.
Other standard options include ubiquitous food such as momos (dumplings), thukpa, fried rice, pasta, and pancakes. Breakfast is simple but filling, often featuring eggs, porridge, and toast. Moreover, some of the lodges also serve a healthy breakfast bowl. Vegetarian options are also easily accessible all year long.
Finally, trekkers can enjoy a range of warm and refreshing drinks. Milk tea, black tea, hot lemon, and even coffee is available in almost every lodge. You can also order boiled germ-free water for refilling bottles or try the traditional, rich Sherpa butter tea for the unique taste of mountain culture.
Not only this, but if you are lucky enough, you can even find some of the tea houses that offer alcoholic beverages brewed by locals from the flowers called rhododendrons (Laligurash); meanwhile, their taste is described as floral, pleasant, and slightly sweet.
Private Trip Vs Group Trip
Trekkers who prefer personal attention and flexibility can opt for the private trip. In this choice, you can walk at your own pace and at your own meal times and even adjust the itinerary to match your comfort zone. Additionally, the guide has a primary focus on you and your small private group, which is maintained for those who value privacy and photography time. However, the only major con of this trip is that it is not suitable for travellers planning budget-friendly trips.
Moreover, on the other hand, a group trip is more budget-friendly and social. You will be collaborating with other travellers, and if you are a sociable person who enjoys sharing experiences and appreciates teamwork, this choice is ideal for you. Despite this, there will be no comfort interest, and you won’t be able to walk at your own pace. So, just enjoy the surreal environment around you; don’t worry about following a fixed schedule, because this is just a short Everest view trek.
Can a beginner join this trip?
Yes, with this 5-day Everest View Trek itinerary, even beginners can conquer it with moderate fitness. Those without prior expertise can undertake this brief journey. The beginner trekker can experience how the treks are conquered in a short amount of time, and in the future, if they really want to embark on the long travel trek, they will have the prior experience from this.
Moreover, this trek is suitable for any party or individual, as it lasts only 5 days. If anything goes south, you don’t have to worry because it has a short retreat route. You will even witness a group of families with children, as well as Buddhist people, especially the local Sherpa, going to the Tengboche monastery for meditation, rituals, and prayer.
Far from the longer, more remote treks, this trek follows a well-established trail with plenty of tea houses along the way, offering magnificent panoramas and creating unforgettable memories. The warm meal and cosy bed, with a manageable walking distance, make this a beginner-friendly trek, making it more about soaking in the environment rather than being overly exhausted.
Preparation and fitness
The fitness you only need for this short trek is that when you are planning to go, before going on the trek, you should have some light exercise, such as cardiovascular exercise, where you can go cycling or walking for long hours, or ten thousand steps is also enough, which means just make a habit of walking, which will help you with your stamina and endurance for trekking.
As this trek has no long travel days and an average mode of difficulty, people with no experience may find it challenging to conquer, experiencing joint pain. However, it does not mean you have to engage in heavy weightlifting. Maintain moderate overall fitness. And have a small backpack with you while you are preparing for it.
Moreover, packing the fundamental essentials is a vital key to a successful trek, such as personal medication that you may need while embarking, layered or light garments according to the season you are travelling in, sturdy shoes, protective sunglasses, sun moisturizer, and even some extra cash. So, you can explore and peacefully forge memories.
Gadgets charging and Internet
During your Everest View Trek, trekkers can easily find gadget charging and internet access in the lower regions, such as Lukla, Phakding, and Namche Bazaar, as most teahouses and lodges have reliable electricity, either from the local hydroelectric system or solar power. Meanwhile, charging your phone, camera, or any digital device usually costs 200-500 NPR per device.
Similarly, having the power bank can be the ace up your sleeve, as it will buy you time to explore more freely, and it is even better when you are on a budget-friendly trip. In the remote trek, more people depend on solar charging, but it is challenging on cloudy and stormy nights and even difficult in ideal seasons, such as spring and autumn, due to the limited number of charging ports.
Moreover, Wi-Fi is available in most lodges, although the speed varies mainly in the lower regions. In the upland elevations, it’s even difficult to get a stable network. Consequently, most people rely on satellite Wi-Fi for calls, while some critical staff primarily use the service called Everest Link. Additionally, according to local SIM card preferences, NTC is better than Ncell, as it has better coverage in remote areas, although connections are expected to be slower than in cities.
Permit
The trekkers require several permits, including the entry permit for Sagarmatha National Park and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality. Additionally, following the 2023 rule change, the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) is mandatory for all trekkers. These permits are not only for the show, but they are also crucial because they are for the safety measures of the travellers. However, at present it is not mandatory.
Moreover, some shielded or protected areas in the Everest region require a Sagarmatha permit to explore and experience the rich culture of the Sherpa community. It helps conserve the natural environment and trekking trails. Permits paperwork may look like a hassle at first, but they bring tranquilly and help create a more structured, safe trekking experience.
As you begin this journey, you will encounter stone-paved stairs and some facilities of tea shops and lodges. These efforts safeguard the environment, promote tourism expansion, and sustain jobs for guides, porters, and lodge owners, all of which contribute to the funds collected through permits.
At the end, every permit is essential, even the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu permit, which will be used for the development and conservation, and people can easily enter the municipality with this. Despite the effort to make it affordable, permit payments should be made more openly, and trekkers may find the prices a little more than for shorter walks elsewhere.
Your Extra Expenses
The Everest View Trek package is quite comprehensive and covers most essentials, but there are still a few expenses that you need to consider, which are not included. A visa fee for Nepal is something that you must pay upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport. The package does not include the round-trip airfare from your country to Nepal either.
If you stay a few nights in Kathmandu for your own reasons or due to a weather delay, then those extra nights will be at your own expense. Additionally, extended, unexpected stays in the mountains and personal expenses, such as laundry, hot showers, charging devices, buying bottled water, or bar bills, are not included in the package. You should keep some money separately for these items.
Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is a crucial thing to arrange before embarking on this relatively moderate, yet surreal, journey. It still takes you to the highland up to around 3800 meters, where unexpected weather changes, even injuries, can occur. For these unfortunate, unforeseen events, having proper insurance with medical amenities gives you serenity, knowing that you are protected and do not have to worry about minor details.
Always ensure that your insurance includes coverage for upland sickness, flight cancellation, theft, lost baggage, and extended stay in the mountains, as these are not included in Himalayan adventure packages and should be managed at your own expense. As a result, you can see that without an adequate insurance policy in hand, the cost can be extremely high. So, don’t be ignorant, thinking this is just a short trek, as nobody knows what the future holds for you.
What to expect from this Everest View Trek Trip?
The 5-day Everest View Trek is a quick and unforgettable Himalayan adventure that focuses on nature and local culture. The trek is an attractive one and of low difficulty, you take a flight to Lukla and then go for calm walks through pine forests, along river valleys, and in Sherpa villages.
