A large majority of hotels are a blend of traditional Bhutanese architecture and modern comforts. Beautiful views of valleys or forests, or nearby mountains, are available at some properties, enhancing your stay.

In case you have booked the Bhutan Tour Package with Himalayan Adventure Treks, the accommodation is all planned prior to your arrival. This will enable you to enjoy your holiday without the need to worry about hotels and you can concentrate on the culture, history and natural beauty of Bhutan.

Weather and Best Time to Visit

The Majestic Bhutan Tour can be made in all the year’s seasons but the best time is in spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November). This is typically when it is clear, when the temperatures are nice and mild and when the mountains are best.

Spring is a time of fresh flowers and green surroundings and autumn is a time of fresh air and great visibility. Winter is dry and quiet with cool mornings and evenings in the higher locations such as Gangtey (2,900 m / 9,514 ft). Travel can be made during the summer when monsoon rains are more likely to occur.

Visitors can also witness different festivals and traditional celebrations in Bhutan during the spring or autumn period, as part of a Bhutan Cultural Tour. Layers are recommended for day-to-day temperature changes between valleys and higher areas.

Food and Drink during the Majestic Bhutan Tour

While enjoying the Majestic Bhutan tour, you will have the opportunity to taste traditional Bhutanese cuisine and popular international dishes as well. Breakfast is usually served at your hotel and lunch and dinner at local restaurants or your hotel.

Ema Datshi, a cheese and chilli-based Bhutanese dish, red rice, vegetable curries, soups, noodles and fresh preparations of meat dishes are among the popular dishes consumed in Bhutan. There is a wide variety of vegetarian meals available and many restaurants are able to cater for people with dietary restrictions if they are advised beforehand.

The Bhutan Tour Package provides you with meals as specified in the tour, eliminating the need to worry about your food. Bottled drinking water is readily available and tea and coffee are served frequently all over the country. Eating local foods is a great way to discover Bhutan’s culture.

Visa and Entry Permit for Bhutan

A visa is mandatory for most foreigners to visit Bhutan. The visa procedure is easy, as it is done through an authorized Bhutanese tour operator before your arrival. All that is required is a valid passport and the necessary travel documents with at least six months’ validity.

Once your visa has been granted, you will be sent a visa clearance letter before your trip. The visa is only given when you arrive at Paro International Airport. As per the existing policy, Indian citizens have to go through a different entry process and must have a valid passport or voter’s identity card.

During your booking with Himalayan Adventure Treks, our staff will facilitate the process of obtaining your visa and prepare the required documents so that you can arrive in Bhutan hassle-free and smoothly.

Bhutan Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) and Tour Regulations

Royal Government of Bhutan has introduced the latest policy for all international visitors to pay the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF). This fee is allocated to responsible conservation, education, health care and tourism in the country.

One should go through a licensed tour company and the tour arrangements are finalised before entering Bhutan. The hotel and other travel services are pre-arranged, ensuring that guests have a well-coordinated and enjoyable trip.

A Bhutan Cultural Tour complies with these national tourism regulations to ensure responsible travel while protecting Bhutan’s unique culture and environment. When making a booking, always check the current SDF rates and also what is required for travelling, as the government can change its policies at any time.

Health and Safety For the Majestic Bhutan Tour

For most travelers with a normal level of fitness, the Majestic Bhutan Tour is appropriate. Very much a sightseeing holiday, the itinerary is primarily made up of short walking and comfortable road travel, which is ideal for families, couples and over 50s.

The tour does make it to Dochula Pass (3,100 m / 10,171 ft) but you are not staying overnight at a high elevation. The risk of problems associated with altitude is generally low, as the majority of overnight stays are at the lower elevations. You will find it easy to keep your body comfortable on the road by drinking plenty of water, eating balanced meals and getting rest.

In big towns like Thimphu and Paro, there are medical facilities. Personal medications and a small first aid kit are convenient to carry. With Himalayan Adventure Treks, the staff members will be there for you, should you require any assistance in the process of the tour.

Transportation

The Majestic Bhutan Tour is conducted in a comfortable private vehicle with a good local driver for transportation. The roads link the main towns and valleys in the country and provide a beautiful view of the countryside on the way from one destination to the next. Your guide will be with you on the journey and be able to share interesting facts about the places you visit.

The drives wind through forests, over mountain passes, through rivers and traditional villages and are part of the fun. Some roads are curvy because of the mountainous terrain but with frequent stopovers for sightseeing, photography and mini-breaks.

All ground transportation as mentioned in the itinerary will be covered in the Bhutan Tour Package. Himalayan Adventure Treks has vehicles ready to go as per group size to make a safe, comfortable and well-organised journey from the start to the finish, following a reliable vehicle.

Travel Insurance For the Majestic Bhutan Tour

All travelers who are part of the Majestic Bhutan Tour are encouraged to have travel insurance. A good insurance policy gives financial protection against unanticipated scenarios like medical emergencies, trip cancellation, flight delays, lost baggage and personal accidents that can happen during your vacation.

This is a comfortable sightseeing tour but sometimes the weather and travel plans will vary in the mountains. With proper insurance, you can travel with a sense of security and peace of mind.

When planning a Bhutan Cultural Tour, note that it will consist of road travel from one region to another, so it is advisable to opt for a policy that includes medical treatment and emergency evacuation in case of illness. Read your insurance policy carefully before you leave and have a copy of your insurance document with you on your trip.

Currency and Payment Information

The official currency is Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN) and it is equal to Indian Rupee (INR). Many people accept Indian Rupees but some high-denomination currency might have limits. There is a currency exchange service in major towns and at authorized banks.

Many shops, restaurants and local markets are still used to cash payments outside of larger towns. Certain shops, bigger stores and some hotels do take credit cards but there may be additional fees for services.

It is best to have some amount of Bhutanese currency to make small purchases, souvenirs, snacks and everyday expenses on the Majestic Bhutan Tour. ATMs are available in Paro and Thimphu and they might be few in smaller towns and in rural areas.

Your Extra Expenses on the Majestic Bhutan Tour

The Majestic Bhutan tour packages include many elements of travel but there is a need to prepare a budget for individual needs in the course of the tour. This can be drinks, meals, souvenirs, laundry and optional activities that are not listed in the tour plan.

Traditional handicrafts, handmade textiles, prayer flags, wooden carvings, or local products are popular souvenirs purchased by tourists. It’s also a good idea to check out cafés or purchase additional refreshments while sightseeing.

The Bhutan Tour Package clearly shows you what is included in the tour package, which enables you to plan your budget before you come to Bhutan. It is advised to have a small amount of extra cash to be able to make any optional purchases and make personal purchases at your destination throughout the trip.

Language and Communication

The official language of Bhutan is Dzongkha and there are also some regional languages throughout the country. Most foreign tourists are able to communicate easily with the locals because English is widely used in schools, government offices, hotels, restaurants, etc.

Your local guide will speak English and will brief you on Bhutanese history, traditions, culture and daily life during the trip. This makes sightseeing more fun and will help you better understand the places that you visit.

If you’d like to interact with locals during the Majestic Bhutan Tour, knowing a few basic Bhutanese greetings will make for greater fun. The Bhutanese are renowned for their generosity and warmth and they are often greeted with a smile and a kind word.

Internet, Charging Facilities and Mobile Network

The majority of hotels, cafés and restaurants have internet facilities during the Majestic Bhutan Tour. Most larger towns have Wi-Fi, such as Paro, Thimphu and Punakha, which you can use but the quality and speed of the connection might not be as good as you are used to in bigger cities.

Towns and main roads have relatively good mobile network coverage. But the signal could be weak or absent in far-flung regions in the mountains, such as in Gangtey. If you need a reliable mobile phone service during your stay, local Bhutan Telecom or Tashi Cell SIM cards can be bought.

There are also charging facilities for the Bhutan Cultural Tour at the hotels. It is advisable to bring a universal travel adapter and a power bank in case you use the phone or camera a lot during the day.

Cultural Etiquette in Bhutan

Respecting local culture and traditions is an integral part of the Majestic Bhutan Tour. Bhutan is a Buddhist nation with a strong influence of Buddhism in daily life. It is recommended that visitors behave respectfully while visiting monasteries, temples and other religious sites.

Dress modestly, cover shoulders and knees in religious places. Take off hats and listen to the guide on a temple visit. Visitors should not walk anti-clockwise around stupas, prayer wheels and sacred monuments, as this practice is an old tradition in the area.

A Bhutan Cultural Tour is an excellent chance to see the traditional culture first hand. Informal meetings with Bhutanese people will be established along the way by greeting them politely, asking for permission before taking close-up photos and respecting local customs.

Majestic Bhutan Tour Photography and Drone Rules

During the Majestic Bhutan Tour, photography is permitted at most of the sightseeing spots, allowing visitors to document the country’s stunning scenery, architectural wonders and vibrant festivals. But it is not allowed to take pictures at many temples, monasteries and sacred prayer halls. Do not take photographs without permission or at any time when signs and sounds are given.

It is courteous to seek permission before taking photographs of local people. The people are friendly and happy to be photographed if approached respectfully. With this simple gesture, it’s possible to establish positive experiences for visitors and local communities.

The use of drones in Bhutan is also tightly regulated and governed by the relevant government authorities before it can be used. If you will be bringing a drone, read the new rules beforehand to avoid any hassle on your trip.

Packing List

Packing intelligently will help you to be comfortable during the Majestic Bhutan Tour. Take lightweight clothes for warm days and a warm jacket or fleece for cool mornings and evenings. Comfortable walking shoes are suggested, as many sightseeing places involve a short walk and steps.

Other helpful items are sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, a reusable water bottle, lip balm, personal medications and a small first aid kit. A light rain jacket or small umbrella is also strongly suggested in the monsoon season.

No special trekking gear is required to join the Bhutan Tour Package, so it is easy and convenient to pack. It also helps you to get a power bank, universal travel adapter, camera and photocopies of your travel essentials to make your trip smoother and more enjoyable.

Tips for First Time Visitors

The Majestic Bhutan Tour is a great introduction to Bhutan’s culture, history and natural beauty. Travel at your own speed, drink plenty of water and take time to enjoy the quiet times of the day across the country. It’s good if you are flexible, because sometimes the weather in the mountains influences your travel.

Follow the rules and wear the right clothes when visiting religious sites, or when sightseeing, follow your guide’s recommendations. Be polite and friendly towards locals and respect traditions.

A Bhutan Cultural Tour is even more fulfilling when you are open to new experiences and have an open mind. Eat local cuisine, learn local traditions and speak with the local people when possible. These are simple experiences that can be the most memorable on the journey.
